We present a methodology about game environment system based on BCI (brain computer interface) for immersion of FPS game play. FPS game is a video game genre centered on gun shooting and projectile weapon-based combat through a first-person perspective; immersion is important factor in this game. FPS game designer makes efforts to raise player's immersion using interface, graphic effect, sound, and so forth. We implemented real-time game environment system using game player's emotional state information from the BCI sensor to raise the degree of immersion in FPS game. We measured user's EEG signal using MindSet to take user's emotional state on playing game. We can get user's emotional state in 4 categories (attention/inattention, meditation/uneasiness) and this emotional state interacts with game environment system real time. In game environment space, each player experiences different environmental situation (lighting, fog) because each player has emotional state on each scene. We implemented game environment system to be changed (lighting, fog) on playing FPS game. Player can feel the change of game environment by our system. We found out that game environment system can be applied to various game genres to raise player's immersion on playing game.
Hand gesture is a form of non-verbal communication or non-vocal communication in which visible bodily actions communicate particular messages, either in place of, or in conjunction with, speech. Also, gesture is good interaction way when using computer for kids or disabled. Especially, gesture is good educational way for kids. We can see many kinds of serious game using gesture. In this paper, we developed serious game for kids using 'Leap Motion' based on honey bee dance. There are many gesture recognition ways as Kinect 1 , Leap Motion 2 or Wii Remote 3 . These devices are easy interaction device also game controller. Our research is focused on hand gesture, so we used Leap Motion. Development of Leap Motion is affordable and convenient structure. After investigation of honey bee dance, we applied it into serious game. The dances are performed by worker bees that have returned to the honeycomb. It essentially is a language that tells the other workers where the food is. In our developed game, kids can learn these honey bee dance using their hands via Leap Motion. Leap Motion is a computer hardware sensor device that supports hand and finger motions as input, analogous to a mouse, but requiring no hand contact or touching. The movement of the hand is good for kid's brain development. It has already been proven through many materials. Kids can learn the language of bees through developed game and it is a natural form of play. Our system can propose the new development direction of serious game, also potential of Leap Motion as serious game device.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
