The article presents the experience of using information and communication technologies and simulators in training future specialists in navigation and ship handling in maritime institutions of higher education. During the research a wide range of information and communication technologies and training tools were used in order to simulate scenarios of professional activity, emergency situations that are as close as possible to real conditions. The study was conducted from May 2015 to May 2019. The academic disciplines were enriched with separate components of simulator-based training for developing skills to work with electronic mapping systems, radio and electronic navigation equipment of ships, as well as skills related to maritime safety. Academic disciplines were delivered both in specialized laboratories equipped with the necessary training equipment and information and communication technologies in accordance with international requirements for training of marine specialists and the employers’ requirements, and also the training process included e-learning technologies. Comparison of research data before and after the experiment indicates a positive impact of information and communication technologies and simulators on the quality of training future specialists in navigation and ship handling.
The article reveals the research of social and communicative competence formation of future boatmasters in the process of studying humanities. This competence covers a system of social and communicative knowledge, skills, as well as basic values and personal qualities necessary for effective interpersonal interaction and ensuring the safety of a ship. The structure of social and communicative competence of a future boatmaster is determined by the content of his or her professional activity and covers the following components: personal-value, cognitive-content and activity-effective. The results of the study made it possible to establish the educational reserves for improving the quality of training future boatmasters and forming their social and communicative competence. Taking into account the trends of globalization of the maritime shipping industry and the impact on the professional training of future boatmasters, the influence of postmodernism on formation and development of value orientations of students, the emergence of new social values, it is assumed that formation of social and communicative competence will be effective in case at the Maritime institutions of higher education will be introduced such pedagogical conditions: structuring the content of humanitarian disciplines in accordance with the basic values of social and communicative interaction of future boatmasters; using dialogical methods for the development of future boatmasters skills of interpersonal professional interaction; developing on the basis on contextual training of managerial decision making skills; preparation of teaching staff to forming social and communicative competence of future boatmasters. The effectiveness of pedagogical conditions of the formation of social and communicative competence of future boatmasters in the process of studying humanities was confirmed by the results of the pedagogical experiment. According to the results of the study the cadets of experimental group had mostly high (36.03 %) and average (45.96 %) levels of social and communicative competence formation. In control group, these data were 24.38% and 44.37%, respectively. In this group, the number of cadets with a low level, compared to experimental group, was much higher and amounted to 31.25 % (13.24% more than in experimental group).

To increase the efficiency of combined transportation, the supporting structure of flat wagon has been created. A feature of the wagon is that the sections have a low center of gravity. This solution allows for the transportation of oversized cargo on a flat wagon within the established dimensions. The design of this flat wagon can be used for the carriage of goods not only by main lines, but also in rail and water traffic when transported by rail ferries. To ensure the safety of transportation of a flat wagon with containers on a railway ferry, their dynamic loading was determined. It is taken into account that a large-capacity container of 1AA standard size is placed on each section. The solution of the mathematical model was carried out in the MathCad software package. The resulting accelerations, as components of the dynamic load, were taken into account when determining the stability of a container on a flat wagon during transportation by a rail ferry. It was found that the stability of the container is ensured at tilt angles up to 25°. A computer simulation of the dynamic loading of the supporting structure of an articulated flat wagon with containers during transportation by a railway ferry has been carried out. The calculation is implemented in the CosmosWorks software package using the finite element method. The fields of distribution of accelerations relative to the supporting structure of the flat wagon and containers are determined. The maximum percentage of discrepancy between the results of mathematical and computer simulation does not exceed 11 %. The research carried out will contribute to the creation of innovative designs of flat wagons, as well as to increase the efficiency of the operation of combined transport in international traffic
