Abstract-This paper concerns the cutting edge educational approaches incorporated into syllabuses of the most progressive Russian higher technical schools. The authors discuss one of the active methods in teaching foreign languages -collaborative learning implemented in e-courses. Theoretical and historical aspects of this approach are addressed, as are its suitability for engineering education and possible ways of introducing collaborative learning into ecourses. Collaborative learning technology offers wide prospects for teachers of foreign languages as it enables the use of various patterns of interaction, promotes discussion, opinion exchange, peer assessment and building an e-learning community, fosters the development of e-culture and netiquette, and prepares future specialists for work in their professional sphere under the new conditions imposed by society's technological and cultural development. This paper describes real pedagogical experience of teaching English to students using the platform Moodle, focusing on the capacity of different Moodle instruments for designing group work tasks. Recommendations are given for their usage and the results of implementing a collaborative learning approach into certain e-courses offered at Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) are presented.
Abstract-The main purpose of this work is to consider the most efficient modern educational technologies applied in teaching foreign languages to students of higher educational institutions in the Russian Federation. Special emphasis is placed on blended learning as a pedagogical approach of high priority. It is necessary to note that informationcommunication environment plays a great role in the realization of blended learning since the organization of educational process is impossible without it. The authors of the paper give consideration to one of the most relevant educational platform Moodle. An electronic course based on Moodle developed for the first year students of Tomsk Polytechnic University within teaching the discipline "Foreign Language" is reviewed in this work. The authors come to the conclusion that electronic courses designed by means of the e-learning platform Moodle are ideally suitable for the efficient blended learning implementation.
Abstract-Teaching English as a foreign language using modern Internet technologies is considered in the paper. A special attention is paid to the Webquest-based role play organized by means of up-to-date Internet technologies as an approach to raise technical students' motivation to studying foreign languages. Emphasis is upon applying this approach to organizing conference weeks at National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU). An overview of the Webquest-based role play activities is also given in the paper.
The results of numerical simulation of an antenna array radiation pattern in impulse mode by the method of sampling phased array signal processing are represented in this paper. The studies of array parameters impact (the number of elements and the distance between them) on its penetrometer characteristics are discussed. It is established that the change of the distance among array elements leads to narrowing of the main lobe of the radiation pattern as well as to shifting of the side lobes nearer to the main one. Meanwhile, the increase in the number of elements in the array leads to narrowing of the main lobe and decreasing of the side lobes level.
Abstract-The use of the Web as a corpus of language data and Google as a concordancer has been considered as one of the promising directions in the development of the EFL pedagogy. It has been stated by several researchers that the use of the popular search engine Google to search and define authentic language patterns is mostly advantageous for teaching EFL writing as well as mastering learner autonomy of the EFL students. The present article focuses on the advantages and opportunities of Google as a search engine in the Web-corpus for EFL writing pedagogy in technical universities. The authors compare the results of the current investigation with the outcomes of their previous study aimed at examining the potential of traditional linguistic corpora for EFL classroom. Although there is a strong need for further in-depth study of the considered issue, the comparative results obtained at this stage reveal high potential and remarkable advantage of the global web as a corpus, and Google as a search and access tool to authentic language patterns.
