A proficient oral and written communication is considered as one of the main competencies that determines a favorable performance of students at different educational levels. Being the level of vocabulary of students a relevant factor that determines their ability to understand and learn new knowledge. However, differences in the vocabulary level among students from different educational levels have not been specified. This article reports the results of using the Vocabulary Assessment System based on Images, from an exploratory study conducted with 283 elementary, middle, high school and university freshman students.RESUMENUna proficiente comunicación oral y escrita es considerada como una competencia que determina el desempeño favorable de los estudiantes en sus distintos niveles educativos.
This article describes the proposal for the redesign of the current scholarship process for the Center of Research and Higher Education of Ensenada Baja California (CICESE), which consists of a couple of main subprocess that were automated through two information systems; one in the Portal of Administrative Systems and the other in the Integrated System of the Postgraduate Studies Directorate. In the first, the scholarship application is registered or scholarship cancellation is requested, in the second, the management of scholarship is conducted. These systems were implemented 20 years ago, under the web and desktop platform modality respectively. Based on current needs and obsolescence of the used technology, incidents occur in most of its tasks, causing a bad user experience in the use of the systems, as well as critical bottlenecks have been detected, delay times that reduce efficiency throughout the process. This article describes the proposal for the redesign of the new scholarship process using the process analysis methodology (PADM). This to propose improvements in their tasks, supported by the implementation of a unique and integrated web system.
The study consisted in identifying specific teaching competences pertinent to the programs taught by the Facultad de Ciencias (FC) of the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC). The study had an exploratory sequential design; for the qualitative phase, the content analysis technique was implemented, from which five specific teaching competences are characterized. For the quantitative phase, the questionnaire “Specific teaching competences” was designed and applied. The results lead to confirmation of the relevance of having relevant competencies to the programs where the teaching function is exercised; when participating professors are identified as competent in promoting research and dissemination of science.RESUMENEl objetivo de este estudio consistió en identificar competencias docentes específicas pertinentes a los programas educativos que se imparten en la Facultad de Ciencias (FC) de la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC).
Recognizing facial images with nonhomogeneous illumination is a challenging task. Retina and difference of Gaussians filtering have been applied to facial images in order to remove variations in illumination. This paper presents a study on how these preprocessing operations affect or improve the performance of the correlation filters in a face recognition task. These preprocessing operations were applied to CMU and YaleB facial databases, which containing images with homogeneous and nonhomogeneous illumination, respectively. Results show that these operations improve the performance of correlation filters for recognizing facial images with variable illumination.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
