Ninety-six temporomandibular joint disks obtained at autopsy from subjects aged 1 day to 93 years of age and divided into three groups aeeording to dental status were examined mieroradiogiaphieally for ealeifieation.The central pan of the disks .showed no ealeifieations in individuals less Ihan 30 years old, and only a few in persons above 30 years with a good dental status, while the oeeuirence was mueh greater in patients who had lost many or all of their teeth. In ihe peripheral part of the disk there were oceasional calcifiealions already in ehildren, and in elderly individuals tlie ealeifieations were more eommon, but the ficqueney did not appear to vary with the number oi: residual natural teeth or with the degree of aithiosis of Ihe temporomandibular joint.
