A low background Micromegas detector has been operating in the CAST experiment at CERN for the search of solar axions during the first phase of the experiment (2002)(2003)(2004). The detector, made out of low radioactivity materials, operated efficiently and achieved a very low level of background rejection (5 × 10 −5 counts keV −1 cm −2 s −1 ) without shielding.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
