The atmophytic, lime-incrusting alga Geitleria calcal, ea (Cyanophyta, Stigonemataceae), discovered in 1955 by Friedmann in two caves of Israel, has been found in six caves in France. Ecological conditions at all habitats are identical: The greyish-green humide algal mats cover the limestone ceiling of the caves. Light intensity is always extremely low. Lo~,ielta mcovitzae Serbanescu 1962 seems to be identical with Geitleria calcama.
