Bioglass melts are granulated by hot gas atomization techniques, where spherical powder and fiber type products are respectively available depending on different process parameters. Higher atomization gas temperatures induce higher powder fractions, while at ambient gas temperature fiber materials can be produced. The diameter of the as‐atomized fiber material decreases with increasing melt temperature. Particle size analysis, Scanning Electron Microscopy, and optical observation of the atomized materials are performed. The melt disintegration mechanism and the particle shape and size dependency on process parameters are discussed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
