Some individuals may possess a counteracting purine response to the MPA-mediated inhibition of IMPDH. Reduction of the guanine/hypoxanthine ratio may be related to prolonged inhibition of IMPDH and seems as an intriguing pharmacodynamic biomarker for MPA.
