This study supports the proposition that ADA determination is a fast and discriminating test for diagnosing PTB with an optimal cut-off value of 39 IU/L.

NAFLD is highly prevalent in morbidly obese patients. A high proportion of these patients exhibit NASH on histological examination. Insulin resistance represents the main predictor of NASH.

A national birth weight for Chilean population (a predominant Hispanic population) was constructed. There are not differences between this curve and the standard proposed by WHO (population from California, USA) suggesting that under comparable perinatal indices, ethnicity is not a relevant factor deterimining birth weight.

RYGB is associated to high bone resorption and hyperparathyroidism prevalence in postmenopausal women in the long-term. This occurs independently of the intake of calcium, vitamin D status, or ghrelin and does not seem to affect BMD after RYGB.
