Higher education sector has been significantly adapting to the new situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite students are often referred to, students are rarely at the centre of the concerns being raised. The research aim is to compare students’ views on digital higher education in light of COVID-19 underpinning the identification of issues in digital higher education in light of COVID-19. The research implies theoretical and empirical methods. The exploratory empirical study was carried out. Semi-structured interviews serves as the data collection method. Content analysis was applied to the obtained data for data processing. The theoretical analysis allows finding that digital environment in higher education is not limited by only a technical aspect of its organisation. Digital environment also implies students’ health, financial and economic situation, etc. The empirical findings contribute to the conclusion that digital higher education in light of COVID-19 is negatively evaluated by students. The most common issues faced by students are identified. The research question is newly formulated. Directions of further research are proposed. The novelty of the paper is presented by the identified issues in digital higher education in light of COVID-19.
The importance of engineering education in promoting engineering students’ entrepreneurial attitudes and behaviours now is widely recognised. The aim of the research is to explore international engineering Master students’ views on digital entrepreneurship in a host European country underpinning the elaboration of implications for engineering education in a host country. The research methods imply the use of both - theoretical and empirical - methods. Theoretical methods included analysis of scientific literature, theoretical modelling, systematisation, synthesis, comparison, generalisation. The empirical study was carried out in Germany in February 2021. 32 engineering Master students took part in the online survey. The online survey was based on the online questionnaire. The obtained data were described with the use of percentage, standard deviation and weighted average. The data description was followed by data interpretation and summarization. The use of the theoretical methods allows identifying that digital entrepreneurship is a supplement to traditional settings entrepreneurship proceeds in. The theoretical research resulted in the conceptual framework built of engineering student’s intention to become a digital entrepreneur, the use of the host country language, the use of engineering knowledge in digital entrepreneurship. The results of the empirical study allow finding out that the engineering Master students’ view digital entrepreneurship in a positive way. The survey results show that the engineering students focus their digital entrepreneurship on their professional field, namely engineering. The survey also outlined two major factors, namely host country language and host country rules, that limit the opportunities of becoming a digital entrepreneur in a host country. The implications for engineering education, that international engineering Master students receive in a host country, imply the integration of entrepreneurial culture, namely host country language and host country rules, into engineering education in a host country. The emphasis of the host country language and host country rules should be placed on their use for entrepreneurial purposes. By the entrepreneurial purposes, specific activities that are tied to entrepreneurship are meant. Training of host country language and host country rules within engineering education should be centred on their use for entrepreneurship.
Purpose –Comprehensive review of the existing literature has been done to analyze the theoretical concepts and current developments in the domain of Gig Economy. Exploring current trend of Gig Economy is the aim of this paper. Further future research agenda will also be identified & set. Research Method – 526 papers from the web of science database was analyzed. Comprehensive explorations of papers have been done by two tier method.Bibliometric analysis helped to understand current state of affair on this topic. Systematic literature review analysis of few papers was conducted for identifying different domain of research Findings –Extensive review of the existing literature has been provided, based on the bibliometric analysis. This study also highlights future research themes by identifying knowledge gaps based on literature review. Research Limitations/Implications – State of Gig Economy have been explained for few years only. Web of science title search reflected papers for five years only. This research can be extended on the database of Scopus for extended number of years to gain deep insights on this topic. Multiple dynamics of Gig economy has not been explored, which is required to be explored to evaluate its impact specifically in the domain of human resource. All human resource management decisions are required to be taken meticulously not just by evaluating its impact on ROI but also valuing its impact on human mind.Orgnaizations should keep human sentiments, its overall spillover effect in mind while adopting strategies right from human resource planning, recruitment, onbaording, salary framework, training, mentoring to firing. Research of this kind will add human element in hiring & firing decisions. Originality/value – To develop an exhaustive overview & understanding of the research in the area of Gig Economy, bibliometric analysis & literature review has been done. Future researcher will be able to orient their research in the identified area.
The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the higher education sector, which is a critical determinant of a country's economic future. The aim is to compare the views of teachers and students on inclusive digital teaching in higher education during the COVID-19 pandemic. The meaning of “inclusive digital teaching” and “view” are studied. The empirical study was carried out in September-November 2020. Forty respondents from Germany, Latvia, India, Ukraine, and South Africa participated in the study. The data were collected via a semi-structural interview. The theoretical findings allow defining inclusive digital teaching and its criteria and indicators. The positive views on inclusive digital teaching in higher education during the COVID-19 pandemic were expressed by the university teachers. The students' views were more negative. The novel contribution of this chapter is the implications on inclusive digital teaching in higher education. Directions of further research are formulated.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
