O movimento dentário durante o tratamento ortodôntico requer uma remodelação do osso alveolar e dos tecidos periodontais. Para a movimentação dentária, osteoclastos devem ser formados de modo que possam remover osso da área adjacente à parte comprimida do ligamento periodontal, e também é necessária a formação de osteoblastos para a produção de novo osso no lado de tensão e nas áreas de reabsorção remodeladora no lado de pressão. As prostaglandinas têm a importante propriedade de estimular tanto a atividade osteoclástica quanto a osteoblástica, fazendo isto apropriadamente como mediador do movimento dentário. São conhecidos dois tipos de fármacos que diminuem a resposta à força ortodôntica e podem influenciar o tratamento: os bisfosfonatos, usados no tratamento de doenças ósseas, e inibidores de prostaglandinas, como analgésicos e anti-inflamatórios. A ação desses fármacos pode causar profundas alterações em movimentação, velocidade e sucesso do tratamento ortodôntico, ficando evidente a relevância do tema. O objetivo deste trabalho é, por meio de uma revisão de literatura, revisar a influência dos analgésicos não-opióides e antiinflamatórios não-esteróides no movimento ortodôntico. The influence of non-opioid analgesics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in orthodontic tooth movement The tooth movement during orthodontic treatment requires a remodeling of the alveolar bone and periodontal tissues. For tooth movement, osteoclasts are formed so that they can remove the bone area adjacent to the compressed portion of the periodontal ligament, and is also required the formation of osteoblasts to produce new bone at the tension side. Prostaglandins have the important property of stimulating both the osteoblastic and osteoclastic activity, doing this properly as a mediator of tooth movement. There are two types of drugs that decrease response to the force and can influence the orthodontic treatment: bisphosphonates used in the treatment of bone diseases, and prostaglandin inhibitors such as analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs. The action of these drugs can cause profound changes in movement, speed and success of orthodontic treatment, evidencing the importance of the topic. The objective of this study is to review the influence of non-opioid analgesics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in orthodontic tooth movement. Key words: Analgesics, Non-Narcotic. Endereço para correspondência: renataab@yahoo.com.brResumo A recessão gengival é definida como a localização da margem tecidual apical à junção cemento-esmalte e pode ser causada pelo biofilme bacteriano, fator etiológico primário da inflamação periodontal, assim como pelo trauma de escovação. O tratamento da recessão gengival é normalmente um recontorno da arquitetura gengival, com ou sem associação de técnicas, para alcançar o recobrimento da superfície radicular exposta e aumentar a quantidade de tecido queratinizado. Estes procedimentos visam a uma melhoria estética e tratamento da hipersensibilidade dentinária, assim como a redução do risco de cárie. O retalho posicionado coronalmente é uma técnica muito utilizada para realização de recobrimento radicular. Na literatura, têm sido relatados diversos fatores que podem interferir no sucesso dessa técnica, dentre os quais estão os relacionados ao tecido periodontal, à técnica cirúrgica e aos hábitos dos pacientes. O objetivo desse artigo foi reunir os fatores que poderiam influenciar no resultado final da técnica de retalho posicionado coronalmente, mediante uma revisão de literatura. Gingival recession is defined as the migration of the gingival margin apical to the cemento-enamel junction and can be caused by bacterial biofilms, primary etiological factor of periodontal inflammation, as well as the trauma of brushing. The treatment is usually a recontouring of the gingival architecture with or without associated techniques to achieve the covering of the exposed root surface and increase the amount of keratinized tissue. These procedures aim to an aesthetic improvement and treatment of dentin hypersensitivity as well as reducing the risk of caries. The coronally positioned flap is a technique widely used for achieving root coverage. The literature have reported several factors that can interfere with the success of this technique, among which are those related to periodontal tissue, the surgical technique and patient’s habits. The aim of this article was to getter the factors that could influence the outcome of coronally positioned flap technique, through a literature review.
