International audienceAll works in the domain of Urban logistics demonstrated that these Freight Consolidation Centers contribute to limit the emission of carbon dioxide and air pollutants in the cities. However their economical business model is quite fragile. To increase the profitability of these platforms, it will be compulsory to enlarge the scope of their activities and to diversify their operating modes through additional services. This paper proposes a global overview on urban freight consolidation centers issues. A particular focus is made on the interoperability problematic associated to these centers' activities
Performing servitisation requires choice consistency in terms of manufacturing structure, service structure, and the coupling between them. In this paper, we rely on the manufacturing strategy and service innovation literature to build a conceptual framework in order to investigate a servitisation path in industry. This framework aims at describing both the product-oriented production structure and the service-oriented production structure, at key points of a firm's history. We use this framework within a case study from the capital goods industry, and show its relevance as a support for the diagnosis of consistencies or inconsistencies in strategic choices relating to the design of the product-service production system throughout time.
International audienceOur research focuses on CO2 emissions along supply chains, from freight energy use to inventories storage. These supply chains are Collaborative Networked Organisations (CNOs) linking together actors operating along the same value stream. A supply chain model using a discrete event simulation was developed. Our CNO model is able to simulate a three tier supply chain. Four tuneable variables are provided: manufacturing capability, locations, mode of transportation and types of products. The product data are from Carrier, a large manufacturer and distributor of heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems. Their purpose is to compare levels of CO2 emitted for differing configurations of different scenarios. Some results are logical, but others are unexpected. The principal objectives of this study are twofold: providing a realistic decision support for simulating and promoting sustainable collaborative networks (CNs), helping managers to select eco-friendly supply chains
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
