Scalp extension appears to be a useful adjunctive technique in hair replacement and reconstructive surgery, and has distinct advantages over standard scalp reduction and tissue expansion techniques.

The serious cosmetic problem posed by the vertical "strip" following scalp reduction may be eliminated. A technique combining scalp reduction with a small random flap is proposed. If necessary, the treatment can be completed with an advancement flap.

Owing to this major improvement, I have switched from the conventional closure techniques to this new one.
