Affection, understanding and responsibility are indispensable values in a process and virtues necessary to preserve the environment. The urbanization of Brazilian cities without planning has caused serious damage to environmental conditions and the health of residents and mitigating measures are necessary. In this sense, urban afforestation has numerous benefits in the microclimate-air temperature and humidity, factors that contribute to improving thermal comfort and quality of life for residents. This article describes an environmental education action with children in primary education aiming at increasing afforestation in the internal space of Child Education Centers in the municipality of Itapira-SP. The results showed that the activities developed in this study characterize plausible actions with regard to raising the awareness of children and educators in increasing urban afforestation, serving as a link for the participation of these children in the social contexts of the places where they live.
