“Guru” by profession is a leading figure in character building. He is responsible for accompanying his/her students in their search of values. Original meaning of guru is spiritual director who guide ones to reach enlighten and to transfer knowledge. Three major traditions in the East (Hindi, Budhism and Jainism) ascribe guru a high position in religious rites and education. Based on this original meaning of guru, this article tries to adopt it to modern meaning of teacher as a person who provides spiritual and transcendental values to the students. As far as catholic religion teacher concerned, the role of the teacher stemms from his being as a catholic. Being a catholic inspires him to act in accordance to his faith. So, it touches ethics of being and ethics of doing. A catholic religion teacher should regard his profession as a teacher in the service of humanity. One the most difficult problem in the world is the crises of spiritual and transcendetal values. Young milenial students look forward to seeing a teacher who lives these values.
The most problematic term in social relationships is justice. It coversall dimensions in human life. Since the way people understand themeaning of justice differs from time to time and from generations toother generations, it is worthy to trace the original meaning of justice.This article tries to describe the root of justice in the religious realm.Justice is regarded as a virtue which is imprinted in the human being.Human beings are created in the image of God. As a consequence, beinghuman means being just as God, the creator is just. Practicing justicein human relations is a way of making justice which stems from Godcan be tangible. This is the imperative of doing justice in the world.
Teaching authority in Roman Catholic is entrusted to apostolic college of bishops with Pope as its head. This authoriy has been developed from the ouset of christianism. It is believed that the the apostolic college has handed over to bishops as their successor. The teaching authority performed by bishop is restricted to faith and moral matter. Their teachings in these matters obtain an infallible character. As far as the faith and moral matter are concerned, the infallibel character is accepted. Issues regarding politics, economics and so on are not in domain of the teaching authority of Magisterium. Catholics are strongly recommended to give their obbedience to the teachings of Magisterium. Are there possibilities to dissent from these teachings? This article demonstrates historical development of teaching authority in roman catholic and its implementation.
Pendidikan karakter merupakan aksentuasi pendidikan Indonesia sekarang ini. Amanat UUD 1945 alinea ke-4 yang mendorong tujuan pendidikan untuk mencerdaskan kehidupan bangsa, secara operasional diimplementasikan dalam rencana strategis pendidikan formal melalui rancangan kurikulum 2013 yang menekankan “peningkatan akhlak yang mulia”. Ada berbagai nilai karakter yang ingin ditanamkan pada peserta didik. Salah satu nilai karakter yang penting adalah nilai moral religius. SMAK Setia Bhakti Ruteng, Kabupaten Manggarai, Propinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur merupakan salah satu sekolah menengah atas yang fokus pada penanaman nilai karakter religius khususnya nilai moral Kristiani. Sesuai spirit pengelola sekolah, yaitu Para Suster SSpS (Servorum Spiritu Sancto), nilai moral Kristiani/Katolik merupakan pusat perhatian pengembangan karakter di tempat ini. Nilai tersebut meliputi kerja sama, kejujuran, tanggung jawab, iman/percaya, pengorbanan, keserdehanaan dan kasih. Hasil tes awal menunjukkan bahwa tiga nilai yaitu kerja sama, kejujuran dan tanggung jawab dinilai kurang memuaskan dimiliki para peserta didik. Terdorong oleh keprihatinan terhadap kondisi awal ini maka dilakukan suatu tindakan penanaman nilai dengan menerapkan metode penelitian tindakan yang meliputi tahap pra tindakan, tindakan siklus I dan tindakan siklus II dengan berpedoman pada metode penelitian tindakan Kemis dan Mc Stagart. Langkah-langkah setiap tahapan siklus meliputi: perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengukuran dan refleksi. Isi tindakan yang dilakukan adalah internalisasi nilai moral Kristiani dalam setiap tahap tindakan dengan menggunakan pendekatan community building. Hasil tindakan menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan community building memiliki tren penilaian positif dengan perolehan gain score sebesar 62%. Itu berarti pendekatan community building yang dilakukan dapat mendongkrak kenaikan 62% nilai moral Kristiani peserta didik di SMAK Setia Bhakti Ruteng.
The third encyclic written by Pope Francis is Fratelli Tutti. The title of the encyclic is taken from admonitio of St. Francis of Asisi. Literally Fratelli Tutti means all brothers. As far as the content of the encyclic is concerned, it is considered as a social encyclic. It speaks about the concern of the Pope on social issues especially human relations. In the Pope’s view, there are signs of disruption in human relation especially relation with “others”. So in the first place a summary of the encyclic will be presented. In the second place, the author of this article points out the role of “others” in the context of human development. The other plays an important role for reaching an integral human person. For pastors, the role of “other” in his ministries and services helps him to change his attitude and mentality. This article tries to demonstrate that the most tangible way the “other” can do to pastors is urging them to have a radical conversion. The “other” challenges pastors to make decision to be a neighbour for the “other”.
