In this rapidly changing global environment, the need for communication skills (CS) and emotional intelligence (EI) has become important to today's leaders, in addition to knowing other technical and conceptual skills. Although many universities and management institutions around the world have studied the impact of CS and EI on organizational performance, there are still numerous gaps in the research approach, results and conclusions. Most people are confused due to complex information that lacked impeccability in past studies. This study aims to identify the significance of CS and EI that influence leaders and organizational performance and examine how the contributions, evaluations, opinions and ideas of previous researchers have been related and biased. This is an independent article based on a literature review conducted using the electronics databases such as EBSCO, DOAJ, RESEARCH LIFE, EMBASE and Google Scholar. The variables explored in the present review include effective communication skills, leadership emotional intelligence and organizational performance which are also the guiding framework of the review. The present review shows that CS and EI may be combined rather than separated to develop the potential of a leader to achieve organizational efficiency and success. Both CS and EI are the prerequisites of an effective leader to manage others and build long-term relationships. The review recommends that leaders receive the appropriate training in public speaking, negotiation, emotional management, and organizational efficiency to improve their CS and EI.
An existential crisis (EC) is a situation in which an individual provokes a storm of dread about the meaning, purpose, or value of life, and is unpleasantly disturbed by a series of thoughts in their lives. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the EC on humankind has further increased across the world. Although scholars have studied the effects of EC on humans, there are limited studies of the pandemic that induces EC in humans. The most neglected area in past research has been the lack of integration between different disciplines to find better solutions for EC disease. This study aims to identify the main factors that influence people’s psychological stigma due to crisis and examine how the previous studies’ contributions, evaluations, and insights on EC are interrelated and biased. This is an independent article based on a literature review. It took more than two months to review entire articles. As the guiding framework of the study, death and meaninglessness, loneliness and social isolation, freedom, and authenticity are emphasized succinctly to deliberate on EC. The study shows the limitations in views and findings with the previous studies including the usage of the jargon related to CE. The experience of death, loneliness, and isolation amid the COVID-19 pandemic isn’t always alluring to many humankind as indicated in the study. Strong integration of psychology and Buddhism may offer the right solutions to overcome the EC during the pandemic. However, a large number of studies, seminars and conferences may need to be initiated by the respective academics and policy makers in order to advocate an integrated approach to the solutions for EC.
Embarking on a comprehensive exploration, this study delves into the captivating realm of On-Job Training (OJT) and its profound impact on student learning within the context of the 6th cohort of the Diploma in Materials and Procurement Management program at Jigme Namgyel Engineering College in Dewathang. Although many claimed that such supervised training within a particular time frame (45 days) carried out either in the private sector or in government organizations provides skills, knowledge and experience, however, no prior study has been conducted by the college so far to assess its impacts. To assess the impact of On-Job Training (OJT) on the acquisition of practical skills, knowledge, and competencies among students in the 6th cohorts with a specific focus on their ability to apply theoretical concepts in real-world work environments is the main objective of the study. The purposive sampling method was used as the method of the research. This study used one set of questionnaires to discover supervisor’s perspectives of different organizations and student’s perspective. A total population size of 43 questionnaires (29 students and 14 workplace supervisors) were issued and all were returned. The data were analyzed using a Relative Index of Importance (RII) which provides a descriptive interpretation of the most important variables in this research. It was observed from the view of the organization that such training improved the student’s skills in formal and informal communication, help to find a research area for their projects, ability to socialize, and sustained the relationship. In the view of the students, It has been observed that the training improved the students’ confidence in tackling problems and provides the need for continuous learning. Also, observed that inadequate duration and insufficient stipend were the major concerns students expressed during their internship. It has been concluded that industrial experience gained from the OJT help to improve the student’s ability and knowledge gained which can provide the basis for a successful career after graduation from college. It was recommended that OJT should be seen as a tool to improve students’ abilities.
Recently, media reports of community contracts have increased due to problems with the implementation of the Community Contracting Protocols (CCP) among the policymakers and local government officials in the Kingdom of Bhutan. Most of the media reported that it played a crucial role in promoting economic and social development in the community, but also reported common challenges related to project failures and other technical difficulties. The Dewathang Gewog(Block) under Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag(district), Eastern Bhutan is one of the active CCP implementers in the country. As a result, the gewog officials and community contractors have been confronted with a series of challenges and difficulties like most other Gewogs faced in Bhutan. However, the claims must be meticulously validated through academic research and inform the public accordingly because they may carry incomplete assumptions of the CCP in the country. Few or no previous study has been conducted in Bhutan so far using statistical tests to assess the practice and implementation issues of the CCP. This study focuses on identifying the key implementation challenges of the CCP in the Gewog. The Gewog had carried out several community projects over the past three years (2018-2020). The study was carried out within three months. The target population size was 41, determined from the seven dispersed project sites. Only people who were mainly involved in the implementation of the community projects in the last three years were considered. By following the cluster random sampling process, the sample size(30) was selected as the respondents for the study. Data were collected from them through a survey and face-to-face interview with the key informants. The hypotheses were tested with a chi-square test based on data obtained from the respondents and processed with Microsoft Excel. The results were presented in tabular and graphical form with interpretations for better understanding. The study found that Gewog officials and community groups faced challenges such as project delays, lack of coordination, poor monitoring and supervision, cost overruns. In addition, the study also found out that the Gewog office has ensured community participation through CCP despite the challenges. Strict performance monitoring (tracking progress), capacity building and problem-solving through field visits to identify obstacles are the possible recommendations proposed in the study. The study also recommends that the relevant agencies review the CCP as appropriate and make it feasible and enforceable.
