The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about serious consequences in business world practices. Among these, flexible working policies have increased to a great extent. This has resulted in serious problems in the work-life balance. In this context, conditions such as having children and marital status have been important factors that can affect work engagement among flexible workers in the post pandemic era. Therefore, this study investigates the relationship of marital status, job experience and having children with work engagement among white-collar workers who work in flexible hours. Data is collected through surveys from 199 flexible working employees. ANOVA and T-tests were employed to analyze the data. The results indicate that only one of the sub-dimensions of work engagement–namely absorption- changes according to their marital status, and yet, the work engagement is not related to having children. In addition, it is seen that there is a significant relationship between job experience and work engagement.
Learning, which is the main key of innovation, is an indispensable element for companies to gain sustainable competitive advantage. Although not being adequately studied in management literature, network learning capability, a type of organizational learning ability, is a determining factor in the innovation process. Likewise, open-mindedness is a component that accelerates the creation of knowledge in the organization as well as encouraging the organization to be open towards new opportunities and to value different opinions. In this study, a model including these variables was designed and the mediator role of network learning in the relationship between open-mindedness and innovation performance was explored. It is suggested that open-mindedness has a positive effect on innovation performance and that network learning capability possesses a mediator role in this relationship. The data were collected through surveys answered by the middle and senior managers of Turkey’s leading companies. As a result, it is pointed out that there is a positive and significant relationship between open-mindedness and innovation performance, and that network learning has a mediator effect on this relationship. This study adds value to the management literature by highlighting the momentousness of network learning capability in the innovation process as well as offering several avenues of future studies and implications for different stakeholders.
Purpose: In today's world; where technology, capital and workforce are in a rapid flow across borders; quantitative indicators, that provide insight into the economic and innovative performance of countries, are of key importance for decision makers. One of these indicators is Foreign Direct Investment (FDI); which is not only a mechanism that drives competition and economic development, but is also an international capital flow. This paper investigates whether FDI has a mediator role in the relationship between Global Innovation Index (GII) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Design/Methodology/Approach: The mediator variable analysis was conducted based on the secondary data of FDI, GII and GDP of 43 countries which has been obtained from the World Bank between 2014 and 2018. Findings: As a result of the analysis, all hypotheses were accepted. Consequently, a positive and significant relationship was found between the Global Innovation Index (GII) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and it was found statistically significant that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has a mediator role in this relationship. Originality: In the literature, there is not any research that explains the role of FDI in the relation between Global Innovation Index (GII) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In order to address the gap, this study investigates whether FDI has a mediator role in the relationship between GII and GDP.
