Improving authentication delay is a key issue for achieving seamless handovers across networks and domains. This paper presents an overview of fast authentication methods when roaming within or across IEEE 802.11 Wireless-LANs. Besides this overview, the paper analyses the applicability of IEEE 802.11f and Seamoby solutions to enable fast authentication for inter-domain handovers. The paper proposes a number of possible changes to these solutions (typically in terms of network architectures and/or required trust relationships) for inter-domain operation. In addition, the paper identifies the crucial research issues therein. Possible solutions and directions for future research include: update to security infrastructure, inter-layer communication and discovery of appropriate networks.
Cloud computing is expected to provide ondemand, agile, and elastic services. Cloud networking extends cloud computing by providing virtualized networking functionalities and allows various optimizations, for example to reduce latency while increasing flexibility in the placement, movement, and interconnection of these virtual resources. However, this approach introduces new security challenges. In this paper, we propose a new intrusion detection model in which we combine a newly proposed genetic based feature selection algorithm and an existing Fuzzy Support Vector Machines (SVM) for effective classification as a solution. The feature selection reduces the number of features by removing unimportant features, hence reducing runtime. Moreover, when the Fuzzy SVM classifier is used with the reduced feature set, it improves the detection accuracy. Experimental results of the proposed combination of feature selection and classification model detects anomalies with a low false alarm rate and a high detection rate when tested with the KDD Cup 99 data set.
Abstract. Cloud computing is widely considered as an attractive service model since the users commitments for investment and operations are minimised, and costs are in direct relation to usage and demand. However, when networking aspects for distributed clouds are considered, there is little support and the effort is often underestimated. The project SAIL is addressing cloud networking as the combination of management for cloud computing and vital networking capabilities between distributed cloud resources involved to improve the management of both. This position paper presents new security challenges as considered in SAIL for ensuring legitimate usage of cloud networking resources and for preventing misuse.
