In this paper, we prove a local null controllability result for the three-dimensional NavierStokes equations on a (smooth) bounded domain of R 3 with null Dirichlet boundary conditions. The control is distributed in an arbitrarily small nonempty open subset and has two vanishing components. J.-L. Lions and E. Zuazua proved that the linearized system is not necessarily null controllable even if the control is distributed on the entire domain, hence the standard linearization method fails. We use the return method together with a new algebraic method inspired by the works of M. Gromov and previous results by M. Gueye.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
