The quality of life (QOL) needs to be regularly assessed in haemodialysis (HD) setting. Our study describes QOL as well as demographic and clinical variables associated with QOL in Nepalese patients undergoing HD. A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted to measure the QOL and association of selected variables with quality of life in haemodialysis patients at BPKIHS. Fifty patients were chosen by purposive sampling technique.
Maxillectomy defects can result in oroantral communication that causes difficulty in mastication and deglutition, impaired speech, and facial disfigurement. The prosthodontist plays an important role in the rehabilitation of such defects with obturators. This paper describes a clinical report of fabricating a definitive obturator with a cast metal framework using a single flask and one-time processing method for an acquired maxillary defect. A tripodal design was selected for this case. Rest was placed on the premolars and molars of both quadrants of the maxilla. Complete palate as the major connector was designed to ensure maximum distribution of the functional load to the tissue. Indirect retainer was planned on the right first premolar. Direct retention was provided by the I-bar clasp placed on the left first premolar, circumferential clasp on the right first premolar, and embrasure clasp between the right first and second molars. Thus, this definitive prosthesis rehabilitated the patient by providing better masticatory efficiency, improving the clarity of speech and quality of life of the patient.
Background Nepal is a resource-constrained country where primary caregivers of spinal cord injury (SCI) patients face increasing physical, social, emotional, and economic burdens. This study aimed to assess the level of primary caregiver burden and the association between caregiver burden and sociodemographic factors of SCI patients and their caregivers. Methods The burden of caregivers was evaluated in 71 primary caregivers through face-to-face interviews using the Zarit Burden Interview Scale (ZBI-22). Based on the total ZBI-22 score, caregiver burden was classified as little or no, mild to moderate, moderate to severe, and severe. Results The mean caregiver burden score was 46.28 ± 12.05. Moderate to severe burden was more common (63.4%), followed by severe (18.3%), mild to moderate (11.3%), and little or no burden (7.0%). Caregivers were more worried about “what the future holds for patients (3.07 ± 1.22) and what should do more for patients (3.04 ± 1.01)”. Several sociodemographic factors, such as marital status (P = 0.009), activities of daily living (P = 0.038), monthly family income (P = 0.023), and time spent caring for patients (P = 0.028), were statistically significantly associated with the burden on primary caregivers. Conclusions Our results showed that primary caregivers experienced a high burden of care, primarily related to fear and uncertainty about the patient’s future, patient’s dependency, caregiver exhaustion and finances. Several sociodemographic factors of patients and their caregivers were associated with the burden of the primary caregivers.
Background: Denture adhesives play an important role in the retention of removal dentures. This research aimed to study the knowledge and attitude (K&A) of Nepalese dental interns in various Universities/ dental colleges towards adhesives for removal denture (ARDs). Materials and Methods: A survey was conducted among the dental interns of various colleges in Nepal. Pearson’s Chi-square test was carried out to compare the various variables among the Universities/ dental colleges. Rating scale was used for testing the K&A towards denture adhesives. Results: It was found that 86.5% of the dental interns had adequate K&A on ARDs, 87.8% responded that ARD is beneficial for dentures and 95.5% agreed that dentists should regularly inform regarding ARDs to all denture patients. Conclusion: Most of the Nepalese dental interns of various Universities/ dental colleges possessed acceptable K&A on ARDs.
Rehabilitation of severely resorbed maxilla poses a clinical challenge for fabrication of a successful maxillary complete denture. The increased interridge distance often results in a heavy maxillary complete denture that further reduces the retention and stability of the denture. This case report describes the rehabilitation of an edentulous patient with resorbed maxillary and mandibular ridges and an increased interridge distance by hollow maxillary complete denture so as to reduce the weight of the denture which enhances the retention and stability of the denture.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
