In paper are presented the derived research results on raspberries production in the Republic of Serbia, at total and by regions. Research results are clearly showing that raspberries are dominantly grown in Šumadija region and Western Serbia (around 84.8% of raspberries from Serbia are produced there). Mentioned region offers optimal conditions for raspberries production, in terms of microclimate characteristics, soil potential and available water resources. In recent years, raspberries production has been intensively expanding to those areas where it has not traditionally been cultivated until now. This refers primarily to the Region of Vojvodina, while existing and new plantations are also being expanded in the region of Southern and Eastern Serbia. Serbia is ranked among the largest producers and exporters of raspberries worldwide. The largest part of raspberry production in Serbia is exported as frozen to the global market, but mostly to the market of Western Europe. Almost negligible part of produced raspberries is exported as fresh. Purchase price of raspberry has been increasing in previous period, giving the additional motivation to producers to intensify production, or invest in it.
Aim of this paper is to analyse the role of warehouse receipts in the agribusiness sector, as well as prerequisites for successful public warehouses system. Warehouse receipt emerge as a promising financial instrument for farmers and other owners of agricultural products to provide loan against warehouse receipts. Warehouse receipts also offer alternative investment opportunities for banks by creating a new asset class. The paper analyses the experiences of the Serbia, which introduced the system of public warehouses in 2009. Applied research methodology includes literature review, comparation analyses and Indemnity fund' data analyses. According to the results of this paper, Serbian legal framework can be good example for other countries aiming to establish public warehouses system as a system consisting on all necessary prerequisite to establidh successful public warehouse system. After positive experiences in the initial years, the development of the public warehouse system in Serbia came to a standstill in 2015., when two frauds in the public warehouse system occurred, which led to a loss of confidence in public. An important lesson learned in Serbia is that in addition to complete legislation based on the experience of successful public warehouse systems, it is necessary to implement legal provisions in practice. According to the results of the paper, the main cause of the crash of public warehouses in Serbia is despite the legal provision on the establishment of a special inspection for public warehouses, this most important link has never been established in practice. Lessons learned in Serbia can be a useful experience for other countries, j the process of establishing this important system for agribusiness sector. This paper provides first comprehensive analyses of the public warehouse system in the Serbia.
Fruit production has great importance for the Serbian economy, especially the production of berries, where the production of raspberries can be highlighted. Investments in raising raspberry plantations are relatively high, but the invested funds return quickly, given that raspberry fruits have a high market value in both domestic and foreign markets, so the economic risk that accompanies production is much lower than for large fruits. Due to the high value of production on a small area and due to the high position that raspberries have in the total market value, the interest of producers to raise larger areas under raspberry plantations is increasingly pronounced, and therefore its production is constantly increasing. Accordingly, the paper presents the volume of raspberry production in our country for the last ten years (period 2011-2020), trade and foreign trade with other countries, sales and purchase, as well as problems in the market of raspberry purchase in our country.
