Objective We used local-based enteral formula for post-stroke patients to see its effects on the nutritional status. Materials and Methods This is an experimental research with a pre- and post-test study design in post-stroke patients. Participants underwent clinical and laboratory examinations to assess their nutritional status before and after the enteral nutrition supplementation. The enteral formula preparation, containing arrowroot powder, cork fish, tempeh (fermented soybeans), nondairy creamer, and pumpkin, was performed in a nationally standardized Food Processing Technology Laboratory in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The enteral formula was given twice a day for 3 consecutive weeks in addition to the patients’ daily meal. Statistical Analysis Nutritional indices before and after enteral nutrition supplementation were analyzed using t-test. All statistical analyses were at 5% significance level. Results Of the 22 post-stroke patients, we used the cutoff point of National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale ≥3 and Barthel Index <90 to represent dependency. Our findings showed significantly reduced mid-upper arm circumference and increased body mass index in independent post-stroke patients after the enteral nutrition supplementation. The tendency of increasing total cholesterol level should be carefully watched in dependent post-stroke patients. Conclusion Local food-based enteral nutrition supplementation for 3 consecutive weeks in post-stroke patients may improve their nutritional status.
Background: A smoking habit mostly has spread to almost groups of societies in Indonesia. This habit tends to increase among children and adolescents. Rights to access fresh air free from smoking have been widely discussed at various world meetings. Therefore, it is necessary to have an in-depth study to increase non-smoking areas in public areas. Objective: This study is to develop a need assessment on policy makers and related stakeholders applying a non-smoking area program (in Indonesia it is called KTR/Kawasan Tanpa Rokok) at District Office of Dukun, Magelang Regency, Central Java. Methods: This study was an observational study with a qualitative approach. Its respondents were determined purposively focusing on the Head of Dukun District, some officials of the District, and its visitors. Results: This study found that a majority of respondents understood effects and impacts of smoking to their health. They requested an issuance of official letter for a non-smoking area. The Head of the District has issued a smoking ban for its officials and employees. This issuance was important to increase comfort of its visitors, employees, and officials. In addition, it could make the Head easier to develop derivative regulations. Conclusion: A defined regulation is necessary to apply the non-smoking area program. A regulation from the Regent is highly suggested, but decisions from related agencies can be considered sufficient. The government and related stakeholders should immediately make a local regulation so that the program can be widely applied in the Dukun District. The variety of cases of dental health that occur in elementary school children makes it difficult to quickly identify the factors that most influence dental health. To find out the dental health factors, a system that is able to provide a visual representation of the results of statistical analysis is needed based on the factors that affect oral health in elementary school children. Health information system analysis is mostly done through statistical data analysis. A total of 54 students were included in this study to determine the characteristics, factors that affect dental health, and the implementation of the application in the form of a prototype. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between children's perceptions and their knowledge of dental health and children's perceptions of dental health behavior. Furthermore, guidance and examples from parents play an important role in improving children's behavior regarding dental health. The t-test shows that male students get more examples and attention from their parents regarding dental health. Meanwhile, female students are more concerned with practicing matters related to dental health. The mobile application provides information on children's dental health statistics for schools and health centers. In addition, the application can also provide an overview of dental health in children.
Introduction: Tabaco related death is estimated at 6 million people worldwide and it is portrayed to increase to 8 million in 2030. In ASEAN alone, there were approximately 121 million adult smokers in 2013, in which 50% of them were Indonesian. In Indonesia, it is illegal to sell cigarettes to people under 18 years old, but this regulation has weak field implementation and the number of under-age smokers is considerably high in Indonesia. Therefore, this study aimed to analyse the effects of knowledge and perception with smoking intention and behaviour among santris at Asrama Perguruan Islam (API) Islamic boarding school. Methods: A mix method study with sequential explanatory approach was conducted API Islamic boarding school in two phases namely qualitatively and quantitatively. 380 santris were enrolled in this study with interviewees for quantitative study was divided into three groups: santri who < 17 years old, santri who > 17 years old, and housekeepers. Results: The results showed that the knowledge significantly affected the smoking behaviour while had no influence toward smoking intention. On the other hand, no significant association was observed between perceptions with smoking intention while it significantly affected the smoking behaviour. Conclusion: It can be concluded that knowledge and perception were importance factors that influence smoking behaviour but had no effects toward smoking intention.
