Precise estimation of state of health (SOH) are of great importance for proper operation of lithium-ion batteries equipped in electric vehicles. For real applications, it is however difficult to estimate battery SOH due to stochastic operation, which in turn speeds up aging process of the battery. To attain the precise SOH estimation, an efficient estimation manner based on machine learning is proposed in this study. Firstly, the voltage profile during charging and discharging process and incremental capacity variation are acquired through the cycle life test, and the healthy features correlating to battery degradation are extracted. Secondly, the grey relation analysis and entropy weight method are employed to analyze the healthy features. Finally, the long short-term memory is established to achieve the SOH estimation of battery. The experimental results highlight that the proposed method can effectively predict the battery SOH with preferable accuracy, stability and robustness. This paper proposes a fusion model based on the autoregressive moving average (ARMA) model and Elman neural network (NN) to achieve accurate prediction for the state of health (SOH) of lithiumion batteries. First, the voltage and capacity degradation variation of the battery are acquired through the battery lifecycle data, and the health factor related to the battery aging is selected according to the variation of the voltage profile. Second, the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is employed to process the capacity degradation data and eliminate the phenomenon of tiny capacity recovery, and multiple data sequences, as well as the related residue, are extracted, then the grey relational analysis (GRA) between sub-sequences and health factor are discussed. Furthermore, the ARMA model and Elman NN model are respectively built by training the subsequent time series data and residue data. Finally, all the individual predictions are combined to generate the estimated SOH sequences. The experimental validation is performed to manifest that the addressed fusion method performs the SOH prediction with satisfactory accuracy, compared with the single ARMA method and Elman NN model. INDEX TERMS Autoregressive moving average (ARMA), Elman neural network (NN), grey relational analysis (GRA), empirical mode decomposition (EMD), state of health (SOH).
Lithium-ion battery packs are widely deployed as power sources in transportation electrification solutions. To ensure safe and reliable operation of battery packs, it is of critical importance to monitor operation status and diagnose the running faults in a timely manner. This study investigates a novel fault diagnosis and abnormality detection method for battery packs of electric scooters based on statistical distribution of operation data that are stored in the cloud monitoring platform. According to the battery current and scooter speed, the operation states of electric scooters are clarified, and the diagnosis coefficient is determined based on the Gaussian distribution to highlight the parameter variation in each state. On this basis, the K-means clustering algorithm, the Z-score method and 3σ screening approach are exploited to detect and locate the abnormal cells.By analyzing the abnormalities hidden beneath the external measurement and calculating the fault frequency of each cell in pack, the proposed algorithm can identify the faulty type and locate the faulty cell in a timely manner. Experimental results validate that the proposed method can accurately diagnose faults and monitor the status of battery packs. This theoretical study with practical implications shows the promising research direction of combining data mining technologies with machine learning methods for fault diagnosis and safety management of complex dynamical systems.
Permanent magnet synchronous motors are the main power output components of electric vehicles. Once a failure occurs, it will affect the vehicle’s power, stability, and safety. While as a complex field-circuit coupling system composed of machine-electric-magnetic-thermal, the permanent magnet synchronous motor of electric vehicle has various operating conditions and complicated condition environment. There are various forms of failure, and the signs of failure are crossed or overlapped. Randomness, secondary, concurrency, and communication characteristics make it difficult to diagnose faults. Based on the research of a list of related references, this article reviews the methods of intelligent fault diagnosis for electric vehicle permanent magnet synchronous motors. The research status and development trend of fault diagnosis are analyzed. It provides theoretical basis for motor fault diagnosis and health management in multi-variable working conditions and multi-physics environment.
Capacity prediction of lithium-ion batteries represents an important function of battery management systems. Conventional machine learning-based methods for capacity prediction are inefficient to learn long-term dependencies during capacity degradations. This paper investigates the deep learning method for lithium-ion battery's capacity prediction based on long short-term memory recurrent neural network, which is employed to capture the latent long-term dependence of degraded capacity. The neural network is adaptively optimized by the Adam optimization algorithm, and the dropout technique is exploited to prevent overfitting. Based on the offline cycling aging data of batteries, the capacity prediction performance is validated and evaluated. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can accurately track the nonlinear degradation trend of capacity within the whole lifespan with a maximum error of only 2.84%.
