We are pleased to provide two explorations on the topic of dialogue in Chinese philosophy. In this paper, we consider the educational and theoretical dialogues in China resulting from the encounter between Chinese and Western philosophy down to the present. We consider how this conversation began and how it has evolved into what has become a robust discipline of scholarship and teaching known as Comparative Philosophy in both China and the West. In the next paper, we will focus specifically on dialogues in the historical stream of Chinese philosophy as these occurred within education in China itself, including the nature of some of the most influential discussions and institutions in which these occurred.
There is continuing debate over the effect of homophily, which is the tendency for individuals to socialize with similar people, on behavior diffusion. We aimed to clarify this relationship from a social network perspective, using the agent-based modeling approach. The results demonstrate that homophily promoted the diffusion of behaviors that people had a strong propensity to adopt, but had a prohibitive effect when the adoption propensity was weak. When the adoption propensity was moderate, the effect was promotive at first and then became prohibitive. Moreover, we identified 3 types of homophily—status, value, and mixed (status–value)—and found that mixed homophily was most effective for behavior diffusion, followed by value homophily and then status homophily. These findings highlight the importance of behavior classes and homophily type in the relationship between homophily and behavior diffusion, and call for a serious consideration of both factors when empirically studying the related issues.
This paper aims to analyze how the digital economy affects industrial restructuring and examine the mediating role of the relevant factors. Based on the analysis of the effect mechanism of the digital economy development on industrial restructuring, this paper constructs an improved measuring index system of digital economy covering digital infrastructure, digital industrialization, and industrial digitalization, and measures regional digital economic growth based on provincial panel data in China from 2013 to 2020 by using the entropy TOPSIS method, empirical analyses on the impact of the digital economy on industrial restructuring, and verifies the mediating effect of human capital, technological innovation, and financial development in this process. Research findings are as follows: (i) Digital economic growth demonstrates a considerable positive effect of the speed, efficiency of industrial restructuring, and industrial structure rationalization. (ii) Digital economy indirectly boosts industrial restructuring by affecting human capital, technological innovation, and financial development. The findings in this study are of theoretical significance to interpret the effect of digital economic growth on industrial restructuring, facilitating relevant economies in the decision-making of industrial restructuring and upgrading.
With the introduction of web technology into foreign language teaching, more and more domestic researches have focused on the teaching method in a web environment. Based on theories of collaborative learning and the application of computer technology, this paper attempts to probe the new roles of teachers in collaborative learning of college English in a web environment. How the teacher organizes the group, designs the classroom activity, guides and motivates the students are essential to the practice of the collaborative learning of college English online.
This study aims to investigate how various forms of social control, namely selective incentive and behavioral conformity, collectively rationalize participation in collective action, through indirect network connections. To address it, we use a public game model and analyze the equilibrium conditions of the emergence of collective action on centralized, star-shaped networks and on decentralized, loop-shaped networks. The results show that social control is effective in motivating contribution towards a public good; however, the effect is highly dependent on the ratio of the benefits derived from selective incentive versus behavioral conformity as well as on the structure of social networks. Moreover, we find that indirect network connections can be an important route through which social control can improve the emergence of collective action. These findings have important implications for collective action theory and for intervention in collective actions.
