Organophosphorus compounds (OPs) have been widely used as effective insecticides. As a result, using too many OPs causes the residues of pesticides to be washed away into the water or soil, not only polluting water and soil, also directly or indirectly affecting environment and human health. Besides many countries and terrorists also use them as chemical warfare weapons. They are very dangerous neurotoxins to humans, animals and the environment. In the soil, there are many microorganisms that can degrade OPs, helping to release the accumulation of these toxic substances. In this study, two effective OP-degrading bacterial strains P9 and H14 has been isolated from agricultural land in Ha Nam province, Vietnam. We had used DNA barcodes (16S rRNA) to molecular identification of Klebsiella variicola (P9) and Priestia aryabhattai (H14) and deposited in GenBank MW644772, MW644771, respectively. Moreover, at an initial concentration of methyl parathion 50 mg/L, in investigative culture mediums and conditions, strain P9 degraded 100% of methyl parathion after 7 days in Luria-Bertani (LB) liquid culture. Maximum growth of P9 strains was observered after 6 days incubation (OD600=3.34). This study is an effort to open a direction of applying them in the treatment of OPs contaminated soils and water.
In this paper, DG19 Water Treatmnent Tablets were researched and developed by the Department of Biotechnology, Joint Vietnam-Russia Tropical Science and Technology Research Centre to determine the processing threshold and effective assessment when treating water. The results showed that in the treated water sample, the initial microorganisms (E. coli < 107 CFU/mL, Total Coliform < 108 CFU/mL, Streptococci faecal < 108 CFU/mL, Pseudomonas aeruginosa < 108 CFU/mL, Spores of sulfite-reducing anaerobic bacteria < 106 CFU/mL) were not detected; heavy metals with initial concentration (Zn2+ ≤ 8 mg/L) after treatment, the obtained value less than 2 times or not detected; Permethrin insecticide from an initial concentration of ≤ 80 µg/L, after treatment with a concentration of < 15,6 µg/L or undetectable, meets the standards of QCVN 01-1:2018/BYT. These natural water sources (rivers, streams, lakes, fields) in two localities Bao Thang, Lao Cai province, and in Quang Dien district, Thua Thien Hue province, when using DG19 tablets in water treatment, the indicators as (microorganisms, turbidity, color, odor, arsenic) were lower when compared with QCVN 6-1:2010/BYT and QCVN 01-1:2018/BYT, the water after treatment was standards for use as drinking water.
To repel mosquitoes, there have been many highly effective chemical repellent products, but they carry the potential risk of being unsafe for humans and harmful to the environment. Insect repellent products derived from natural sources that are safe for humans and environmentally friendly are becoming increasingly popular. PMD is a broad-spectrum and effective insect repellent but is present in small amounts in the Eucalyptus citriodora essential oil (EO). In this study, we investigated and evaluated the conditions for synthesizing PMD from EO raw materials in an acidic environment to achieve the highest synthesis efficiency of 76.3%, and the PMD product was 96.4% pure after being converted for 5 hours at 50°C in a 0.25% H2SO4 solution. Additionally, the study also separated the two cis and trans isomers of PMD by column chromatography and determined their structures using infrared spectroscopy (IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
