An infrared spectroscopy-based technique. w i t h remote fiber optic probes, is being developed for the i n situ measurement of moisture i n high-level tank wastes. The strong infrared absorption of water provides a sensitive technique t o sense the water content of high-level waste materials for both ex situ (measurements on extruded t a n k cores) and i n situ t a n k applications. Development of this technique was j o i n t l y supported by the U.S. Department o f Energy's EM-50 Office of Technology Development Support and EM-30 Tank Waste Safety and Tank Waste Remediation Systems Programs.
