Breast cancer is the most common cancer and is the main cause of cancer mortality among women in the world. Overall, 1 in 28 women is likely to develop breast cancer during her lifetime. Although the mortality rate is decreasing, the incidence is persistently increasing due to urbanization and lifestyle changes. So, there is a need to assess the personal breast cancer risk and increase the knowledge of women on early detection. The present study aims to assess the risk and knowledge of women on breast cancer. The main objective of the study is to identify the women at high risk, to create awareness among women about early screening and detection and to educate lifestyle management to decrease breast cancer risk. A descriptive cross-sectional study was performed during the period of June 2019 to November 2019 in the women attended for mammographic examination. A total of 270 women responded to the study. The results showed that five-year risk is found to be high for 31.1% of women and low for 68.8% of women with a mean of 1.4 and the standard deviation is 1.24. About 14.81% of women were found to have strong lifetime risk and 30.37% of women had average lifetime risk and 54.81% women had usual lifetime risk. The mean lifetime risk of the women is 16.09 and the standard deviation is 10.2. The majority of the participants have low knowledge on breast cancer; BSE, and mammography i.e., 80% of them were lack of knowledge. The mean knowledge score is 6.34 and the standard deviation is 5.45. The women who had high five-year and strong lifetime risk are eligible for breast cancer prevention and management approaches. The women with moderate lifetime risk were advised with regular screening and Breast Self-Examination practices.
A descriptive research design was conducted among b.sc nursing students of Mother Teresa College of nursing, Pudukkottai. It aims to assess the level of self-directed learning readiness among nursing students. 50 students were selected using simple random sampling technique. Level of self-directed learning readiness was assessed using Guglielmino’s self-directed learning readiness assessment scale. Data was used by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Chi square test which was found significant with the table value of 3.34 shows the effectiveness Self-directed learning readiness among first year BSc nursing students in mother Teresa College of nursing. The frequency and percentage distribution of the levels of self-directed learning readiness among first year BSc nursing students depicts that majority 34 (68%) of the students have above average levels of self-directed learning readiness, 13% (26%) have average level of self-directed learning and 3(6%) have below average level of self-directed learning readiness
Background: Globally, eight hundred women die every day due to pregnancy or child birth related complications. Aim: A descriptive study to assess the level of birth preparedness and complication readiness among antenatal women at a tertiary care hospital. Method: A descriptive cross sectional study was undertaken by using purposive sampling technique to assess the knowledge, attitude and planning of perception among antenatal women. Total 82 samples of antenatal women in third trimester were selected through purposive sampling from Tertiary care Hospital, Lucknow. Non experimental quantitative approach in which structured interview questionnaire was used for assessing the socio demographic data. Knowledge by interview method, attitude by likert scale and perception of planning by contingency questionnaire. Descriptive and Inferential statistics were used for the analysis of the tabulated data. Results: Out of total study samples (n=82) 34(41%) of antenatal women were well prepared regarding BPCR whereas 47(57%) are average prepared and 1(1%) are less prepared regarding BPCR. Conclusion: Birth preparedness and complication readiness (BPCR) is a key component of globally accepted safe motherhood programs, which helps ensure women to reach professional care when labor begins and to reduce delays that occur when mothers in labor experience obstetric complications.
