This paper gives results as to optical fibre component reliability obtained from a multi-year field trial and from the first volume deployment in France. The field trial led to improved definition, characterization, and qualification of the different components, and yielded quantitative reliability data. This experience helped in the design of optical transmission systems and future FTTC planning. Early reliability information has also been obtained from analysis of components that failed since the beginning of volume deployment.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
