Photoreactions of trans-10b,10c-Dimethyl-10b,10c-dihydropyrenes.-Irradiation of a deoxygenated solution of (I) leads to the exclusive formation of (II). In the presence of oxygen, successive photoconversion to (III) occurs. In the dark, the epidioxy products revert to give initially (II) and subsequently the dihydropyrene (I). Various mixtures of the potassium mono-, di-, tri, and tetrasulfonate salts of (Ia), obtained by SO3 sulfonation, also photoisomerize to the corresponding sulfonate derivatives of the primary photoproduct. For a quantitative study the kinetics of the photoisomerizations are investigated. -(CERFONTAIN, H.; KOEBERG-TELDER, A.; BAKKER, B. H.; MITCHELL, R. H.; TASHIRO, M.; Liebigs Ann.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
