The concentration dependence of the strength of polymer composites with a dispersed filler σ = f(υ), where υ is the volume content of the component, has two characteristic forms. Curves 3 and 4 (Figure 1) are observed for nonreinforcing components of composites. Here, strength decreases with increasing volume content of the component. Such components are used to lower the cost of the end-product, or to recycle the component by encapsulating it in the matrix material.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
