The aim of the study was the determination of hematological values of collared peccaries (Peccary tajacu) in captivity, at the Chaco Center for Conservation and Research,Boquerón, Paraguay. We sampled 26 collared animals, without sex distinction, without apparent disease signs, older than 1 year, chemically immobilized with a combination of drugs consisting of zoletil, azaperone and medetomidine. Also, atipamezole was used as a medetomidine reverser. Blood was obtained from the cephalic, saphenous and femoral vein, only one per animal deposited in a tube with lyophilized EDTA for 1 ml of sample. The determination of the hematological values ? ? was made by an automatic hematology analyzer 6 and blood smear. The results obtained, presented on average, were: Total erythrocytes, 7.38 10 /µL; Hematocrit 32%; Hemoglobin 10.5 g / dL; mean cell volume (VCM), 44 fL; HCM of 15 pg; mean cell hemoglobin concentration (CHCM), 34 g / dL. Total leukocytes 10,762 / µL; Segmented neutrophils 5.466 / µL; band neutrophils, 152 / µL; Lymphocytes, 4,480 / µL; Eosinophils, 754 / µL; Monocytes, 178 / µL; Basophils 31 / µL. Platelets, 138.231 / µL.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
