The Automatic Intercept System routes calls to nonworking telephone numbers to a centralized location where a time division network under stored program control connects the calling customer to a series of prerecorded announcements. The customer is told what number he reached and, from information stored in a large‐capacity disc file, is given the reason the number is not in service and, if available, the new number at which the called party may be reached. This paper describes the system objectives and organization and also serves as an introduction to the detailed papers which follow.
VXI is an exciting and fast-growing platform for modular instruments on plug-in boards. Because VXI combines a modern computing architecture with a sophisticated instrumentation environment, it makes possible the construction of unique new instrument components and measurement methodologies. This paper discusses the term virrrral instrument. a term that has become a huzzword in the VXI industry.Historically, architectural limitations have resulted in hard boundaries between vendor-defined instruments and userdefined functionality in an instrumentation system. In this paper, we'll discuss instrument connectivity and software frameworks for building virtual instruments. and also describe the key architectural and philosophical issues that are changing because of VXI. The purpose is to show how these changes create a new generation of instrumentation tools that empower users, rather than vendors, to define the functionality of instruments.
The 3B20D Processor and the Duplex Multienvironment Real-Time (DMERT) Operating System provide a versatile processing base to fulfill the varied processing needs of telecommunications systems. To illustrate the versatility of the 3B20D/DMERT system, this article describes the structuring of four diverse telecommunication system applications.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
