Background: One of the leading diseases among the elderly population is Osteoarthritis of Knee, which occurs due to the destruction of articular cartilage by immunologic or mechanical factors. Collagen is the most abundant component of the cartilage. Collagen derivatives have shown to have disease modifying action in osteoarthritis. This study evaluates the ability of Undenatured Type II Collagen to improve knee symptoms in patients diagnosed with Osteoarthritis of knee. Method: A total of 60 patients who satisfied our inclusion and exclusion criteria were randomly distributed in two groups. One treated with 1500 mg/day of acetaminophen (group A; n=30) and the other treated with 10 mg/day of native type II collagen (group UC-II; n=30) for 3 months. Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) at rest and during walking, Western Ontario McMaster (WOMAC) pain and WOMAC function were recorded. Results: After 180 days of treatment, although there was overall reduction in WOMAC groups AC+ UC-II was significantly better than AC for "night pain" (p= 0.040) and "resting pain" (p= 0.025). AC+ UC-II was significantly better than AC for "ascending stairs at 60 days and 180 days" (p=0.020 & 0.035 respectively), "at night while in bed" (p=0.020) at 60 days and difficulty walking on flat surface at 180 days (p=0.036). AC and UC-II was most effective and reduced VAS & WOMAC scores by 30%.
Conclusion:The results suggest that undenatured type II collagen treatment combined with acetaminophen has more marked effect when compared to only acetaminophen for symptomatic treatment of patients with knee osteoarthritis.

There is a steady rise in surgical interventions for the disc herniation. Microdiscectomy is a choice for symptomatic, single level lumbar disc herniation. The question is whether a post-microdiscectomy physiotherapy intervention reduces low back pain & enhances functional activities has not been systematically exploredWe have done this study to assess effectiveness of SWD with back extensor exercises to reduce disability and improve quality of life after single level lumbar microdiscectomy, to assess effectiveness of US with back extensor exercises to reduce disability and improve the quality of life after single level lumbar microdiscectomy.
BACKGROUND: Seventy five patients who sustained simple intra articular fractures of distal end of the radius treated by open reduction and internal fixation and closed reduction and kwire fixation during 2years. To assess the functional outcome of the wrist joint in intra-articular fractures of distal end of radius AIMS: To assess the functional outcome of the wrist joint in intraarticular fractures of distal end of radius by opting surgical intervention. METHODS AND MATERIALS: A total of 75 cases of intraarticular fractures of distal end of the radius were operated on by open reduction and internal fixation, closed reduction and k -wire fixation, at KIMS hospital.Records of 75 cases were available for study. The mean age of the 54 males and 21 females was 35.4 years (range, 20-72 years) Special care was taken during surgery to achieve articular congruity. The injury was caused by fall in 32patients, RTA in 37 patients and fall from height in 6 patients. All cases were Gartland and Werely type III. All cases were operated on within 7days from the day of injury. RESULTS: All patients were assessed clinically and radiographically after a follow-up duration of 6 months. The radiological union was acceptable. Result were evaluated according to modified Green O'Brein Score were excellent in 55 cases (73.3%), good in 13 (17.4%), and fair in 7(9.3%). CONCLUSION: Open reduction and internal fixation of intraarticular fractures of distal end of the radius can restore articular congruity and result in good to excellent results.
