The potential of digitalization, digital transformation and digital technologies is important for environmental, economic and social sustainability in businesses and can be applied in various industries. In this scientific article, main author´s aim is to examine the green digital transformation in a theoretical generalization, then in the context of the European Union and to examine the use of digital technologies in the field of sustainable development in selected companies in the world. We used explanatory general theoretical methods. In the literature review, we defined the main concepts related to digital transformation, mapped the digital transformation in the context of the European Union and highlighted the link between sustainability and digital technologies. Examples of the implementation of sustainable technologies in various companies and compliance with sustainability are found in the results of the work and discussion. At the end of the scientific article, we propose definitions: Green digital transformation is the implementation of digitalization and interaction of green technologies into business processes, activities, products and models, when the company becomes environmentally sustainable. Green technology represents the integration and subsequent use of digital technologies to innovate business processes and are used in the field of sustainable environmental development of the organization.
1*23Economic convergence has become a European research topic of interest during recent decades, particularly since new member countries joined the EU in 2004. Measuring cross-country convergence focuses on real convergence, taking per capita income as a measure of living standards based on the convergence criteria defined by Sala-i-Martin (1996). The objective of this paper is to bring together supply-side (real convergence) and demand-side (BoP-constrained approach) concepts of economic growth aimed at identification of convergence sources in the emerging economies of the Visegrad Group. The sustainability of convergence in this study utilizes the BoP-constrained growth theory developed by A. Thirlwall (1979). Our results show that all the countries in the Visegrad Group exhibit relatively instant convergence, which could continue considering the intensity and direction of structural changes that affect the export demand elasticities and labour productivity.
The presented paper focuses on the possibility to group countries by the cluster method in terms of assessing the sustainable competitiveness of European countries. Our calculation is based on HDI (Human Development Index) and EPI (Environmental Performance Index) indices. We also tried to show the differences in HDI and EPI index of the Slovak Republic and the Netherlands. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the global competitiveness regarding the environmental economics model, considering all three levels: economic, social, and environmental. We measure the socio-economic dimension using HDI according to the health and education areas, then we measure the environmental dimension using EPI, which monitors the behaviour of countries in the field of human health protection and ecosystem protection. Our question is whether there is an appropriate classification for the development of these countries that could help to reduce the differences between the average countries and the EU 27 average. The approach to this topic began with the question whether these countries, which have high values of economic growth, have a high level of EPI or HDI. The intention is to look for the possible existence of a gradual rapprochement of countries belonging to the same group.
The Proceedings of Scientific Articles and Studies is a partial output of the research project VEGA1 / 0708/20 Socio-economic determinants of sustainable consumption and production and represents one of the planned outputs within the research tasks solved by an experienced team of scientific and pedagogical staff of the Faculty of Business Management of the University of Economics in Bratislava. The aim of the Proceedings is to publish the achieved partial output of the project solution. Contributions are sorted in alphabetical order according to authors' names. The aim of the Proceedings is to stimulate new ideas for scientists who could contribute to the use of new expertise in sustainable consumption and production in the conditions of the current Slovak economy, thus contribute to a more objective view of the researched issues. I believe that the peer-reviewed scientific volume will contribute not only to the popularization of the presented topics, but also to a broader scientific and professional discussion of the authors and their followers.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
