An observational, cross-sectional, and prospective study of individual data was carried out in patients who had undergone TURP with monopolar equipment. The IIEF-5 was applied to them, preoperatively and 4 months after the surgical intervention. 119 postoperative mTURP patients were identified, of which 42 patients (35%) were excluded; 77 patients (65%) were included in the study, to whom the IIEF-5 was applied. It was found that 42 patients (55%) did not develop ED and 35 patients (45%) had some degree of ED after mTURP; a mild degree was reported in 82.8%, mild to moderate 11.42%, moderate 5.8% and severe 0%. A Spearman's coefficient of coincidence was made for age with the degree of ED in postoperative mTURP patients (rho: 0.141; p = 0.21) and between the degree of prostate growth and the degree of ED in postoperative mTURP patients (rho: 0.058, p = 0.616). There is a prevalence of the presence of a mild degree of ED after mTURP. There is no consequence between the degree of progression growth and the presence of ED in postoperative patients. There are no consequences between age and the degree of ED present in postoperative patients.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
