We aimed to report a successful clinical case of a short-term cardiopulmonary rehabilitation after hospital discharge due to COVID-19. Exploratory descriptive case study with a 58-year-old male, former smoker, and in need of supplemental oxygen after COVID-19 infection, admitted to a cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program of six weeks in a school clinic in the Federal District, Brasília, Brazil. Chest expansion, aerobic capacity, physical function, and quality of life were evaluated before and after the program using, respectively, thoracic cirtometry, 6-Minute Walk Test, 1-Minute Sit-To-Stand Test, and Short Form Health Survey. At the end of the cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, the patient presented increased chest expansion, increased walked distance with decreased perception of exertion, increased repetitions in the 1-minute sit-to-stand-test, and increased quality of life. Moreover, he was completely weaned from supplemental oxygen. A short-term duration cardiopulmonary rehabilitation protocol can contribute to improvement in aerobic and functional capacity, and in quality of life after COVID-19.
O aumento do número de sujeitos amputados protetizados torna necessário o desenvolvimento de dispositivos cada vez mais seguros e funcionais para o uso. Dentre os aspectos envolvidos no desenvolvimento protético, é importante que seja avaliada a percepção do usuário em relação ao dispositivo para detectar problemas e desconfortos que prejudicam o processo de adaptação e reinserção social após a amputação. Objetivo: analisar o nível de satisfação de atletas com amputação transfemoral em relação à suas próteses e seus impactos em sua funcionalidade e qualidade de vida. Método: Estudo transversal preliminar realizado com atletas amputados, a coleta de dados foi realizada por meio da aplicação de um formulário de avaliação estruturado e questionário para obtenção das características estruturais e psicológicas dos participantes com amputação e do dispositivo protético utilizado, o nível de associação entre os aspectos avaliados foi medido por meio do coeficiente de correlação de Spearman. Surface electromyography (sEMG) has been established as a safe non-invasive method to investigate neuromuscular function. However, the use of this instrument to assess lower limbs of transfemoral amputees still presents a lack of standardization in its methods of signal acquisition and processing. The aim of this study was to review the current state of sEMG utilization to assess transfemoral amputees, the procedures adopted for the acquisition and the functional findings. Methods: This is a literature review. Five electronic databases were searched to find the studies: All relevant information of each study was extracted and registered. Methodological quality was evaluated using a customized checklist. Results: Eight studies followed the inclusion criteria and were included in this paper. Four studies did not reach more than 80% of the quality checklist, few studies fully described the methodology applied. The muscles assessed were similar in all studies, electrodes placement was determined by different criteria. Conclusion: This paper demonstrates that a few studies have used this method to assess this population and the main variable aspect is concerned to the placement of the electrodes. More researches are needed to better understand the neuromuscular behavior of amputees by using sEMG and assist future researches to develop more reproducible and reliable studies.
Heart rate variability (HRV) analysis is an important method to evaluate the modulation of autonomic nervous system on cardiac activity. The goal was to evaluate the heart rate variability behavior in hypertensive middle-aged men at rest, before and after submaximal physical test. It is a cross-sectional, analytical study with sedentary men, middle-aged (mean 48 years) and owners of clinical diagnosis of hypertension who underwent to a physical therapy evaluation, and obtainment of HRV at rest in the supine position, sitting position and before a 6-minute walk test and after it. The values of HRV indexes on time and frequency domain showed low and statistically significant (p<0.05) when analyzed and compared at rest and after the execution of the test. Conclusion: The data suggest that the studied hypertensive volunteers showed a reduction of HRV immediately after the 6-minute walk test, implying a reduction in parasympathetic modulation during this period and the consequent increase in cardiovascular risk after physical exertion, even being a submaximal test.Keywords: Physical Exertion Heart. Autonomic Nervous System.ResumoA análise da variabilidade da frequência cardíaca (VFC) é um importante mecanismo para a avaliação da modulação do sistema nervoso autônomo sobre a atividade cardíaca. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar o comportamento da variabilidade da frequência cardíaca de homens de meia-idade e hipertensos na condição de repouso antes e após serem submetidos a esforço físico submáximo. Trata-se de um estudo analítico transversal, em que foram estudados homens, sedentários de meia idade (média de 48 anos) e possuidores de diagnóstico clínico de hipertensão arterial sistêmica, submetidos à avaliação fisioterapêutica e captação da VFC na condição de repouso em supino, sedestação e antes de realizar teste de caminhada de 6 minutos (TC6) e após sua execução. Os valores dos índices de VFC nos domínios de tempo e frequência estudados apresentaram-se reduzidos e estatisticamente significantes (p<0.05) quando analisados e comparados em repouso e após a execução do teste. Os dados sugerem que os hipertensos estudados apresentaram uma redução da VFC imediatamente após o TC6, inferindo uma diminuição da modulação parassimpática neste período e consequente aumento no risco cardiovascular após o esforço físico, ainda que submáximo.Palavras-chave: Esforço Físico.
