Nurses are more susceptible to stress compared to other nurses and they are in need to use many coping strategies to help them to cope with stress. Aim: To investigate the association between perceived stress and coping strategies among nurses in intensive care units. Research Design: A descriptive research design was used in the current research. Setting: The study was applied in five intensive care units include the pediatric intensive care unit (ICU), general at Sohag University Hospital, and the obstetric critical care unit, general and pediatric intensive care unit at South-Valley University Hospital. Subjects: A convenient sample was used in this research which included all the nurses in the previously mentioned setting (70 nurses). Tools for data collection: Tool I: Self-administered questionnaire. Tool II: Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10) and Tool III: the Brief COPE Inventory. Results: The majority of the nurses reported a moderate stress level and one-quarter of them reported a severe level of stress. There was a highly statistically significant relationship between perceived stress and coping strategies in intensive care unit nurses. Conclusion: It was found that using a variety of coping strategies can be effective in reducing stress among nurses in intensive care units. Recommendation: Raising awareness and education of the nurses in intensive care units regarding coping strategies to help them cope with stress.
Background: Congestive heart failure patients at coronary care unit suffer from many problems, which might endanger their life as increased anxiety level which originated from disease process and the actual care they receive was complex. Modified Care pathway guidelines are tools that enhance the patient quality of care by decreasing level of anxiety which may lead to increasing patient satisfaction. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate effect of modified clinical pathway guidelines on congestive heart failure patients' satisfaction at Coronary Care Unit. Design: Quasi-experimental research design. Setting: Coronary Care Unit at Assuit University Hospitals. Sample: sixty adult males and females' critically ill patients' who divided into two equal and matched groups (study and control). Tools:-Three tools; Tool I: Personal and medical datasheet, Tool II Assessment of patient anxiety using state-trait anxiety inventory, and Tool III Patients' Satisfaction Scale. Results: Finding of this study supported stated research hypotheses with statistical significant difference between study and control groups regarding total mean of anxiety score at 6 th day of intervention were (39.6±6.7, 44.87±4.54) respectively as well as (50%) of study group patients were very satisfied as compared with (3.3%) of control group. Conclusion: Applying modified clinical pathway guidelines significantly reduce anxiety level in congestive heart failure critically ill patients and improve patient's satisfaction. Recommendation: Conducting training programs about importance of modified clinical pathway guidelines implementation for all health care providers.
Emergent of Corona virus at 2019 (COVID-19) has created a significant challenge for global higher education, where most countries had to transform to digital learning in short period of time. This study aims to assess the digital transformation in nursing education as perceived by students of COVID-19. Design: A descriptive correlational research design was utilized. Setting: Faculties of nursing in both South Valley and Sohag Universities. Sample: A convenient sample of students had been chosen using OpenEpi Version 3 software. Tool An interviewing questioner covers three parts: part 1, Personal data, and part 2: assessment of digital transformation during COVID-19, and part 3: the ability to compliance with digital transformation. Results: Less than two thirds of study sample were satisfied by the experience of distance learning during COVID-19 pandemic and perceived that faculties of nursing are able to be digitally transformed. Conclusion: There is a highly statistical significant difference regarding learning experience during the pandemic in relation to digital transformation ability, so faculties of nursing has to analyze its situation abilities, resources and facilities needed for digital transformation. Recommendations: Equip the higher education institutions with essential infrastructure, technical support, faculty members and students training, and providing tablets for higher education students that helps to overcome such Covid-19 pandemic.
Background: Severe traumatic brain injury is a global problem that leads to morbidity and mortality particularly among young people. So this study aimed to determine the effect of implementing standardized designed nursing guidelines on outcomes of severe traumatic brain injury patients. Quasi-experimental research design was utilized. Setting: this study was carried at Trauma intensive care unit at Sohag University Hospital. A purposive sample of 70 adult severe traumatic brain injury patients were matched & randomly assigned into 2 equal groups. Three tools were used; Tool I: Traumatic brain injury assessment sheet, Tool II: Neurological assessment sheet, Tool III: Clinical outcome evaluation sheet. Results of current study revealed a statistically significant difference between study and control group regarding clinical outcomes includes prolonged Mechanical Ventilation, Re-intubation and number of death in addition to occurrence of complications as fever, bed sores and infection. Conclusions: application of standardized designed nursing guidelines improves outcomes and help to reduce occurrence of complications for patients with Severe Traumatic Brain Injury. Recommendation: Future researches are needed to examine the effect of the standardized designed nursing guidelines in the different age groups such as older adults and child to improve the outcomes.
Background: physiological instability and pain are among the most common problems of patients post open heart surgery. Many studies reported that non-pharmacological and complementary interventions improve physiological instability reduce post-operative pain; therefor current study aimed to study the effect of foot reflexology massage versus Benson relaxation technique on physiological parameters and pain after open heart surgery, Study design: A randomized controlled trial was used . Methods: the study was carried at Cardio-Thoracic intensive care unit (CTCU) at
