In this paper we resort to 3G WCDMA Networks for the combined purposes of voice communication and tracking of positional coordinates of vehicles in order to develop an efficient emergency response system to effectively battle the aftermath of road accidents occurring at remote locations. Analyzing the individual elements of the UTRAN architecture, a complete call flow between the afflicted vehicle and the emergency response station is developed. A basic investigation into the data flow through the MAC layer is also executed. Finally, an extension of the system to meet the 4G Networking requirements is discussed.
