Indulging the values towards sustainable environment has become the main priority in the National Philosophy of Education and being incorporated into the Malaysia Education Curriculum. Students are taught to appreciate the earth and its natural sources at a young age through various activities. A study was taken place to gauge the environmental education pertaining the understanding and practices of 3R's among secondary school students from five states in Malaysia. Data was collected from 468 students ranging from 13 to 19 years old using a survey questionnaire. It involved the major races in Malaysia from both genders. The results showed that students have a good understanding on 3R's with the most understanding on the Recycle followed by Reuse and Reduce. Urban students understood Reuse the most as compared to rural students who understood Recycle the most. They were also aware of the benefits gained from 3R's. In terms of sustainable behavior, students from both areas practiced the 3R's weekly and monthly. Some main statements regarding the practice of 3R's were obtained from students. The results also showed that schools were the main source to 3R's followed by electronic and printed media.
Abstract-The element of certainty or al-yaqin in the context of Islamic critical thinking deals with the Islamic epistemology, which normally relates to the certainty of knowledge. This element is deemed as the highest criterion of an Islamic epistemological state of knowledge that is engaged in the critical thinking process as well as its aimed result. Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze the perception of Muslim engineering students in Malaysian higher education institutions towards the concept of al-yaqin as an essential element of Islamic critical thinking. The study employed a survey-based descriptive research and the data were analyzed using a descriptive analysis. A total of 557 Muslim engineering undergraduates from six Malaysian universities participated in this study. The findings revealed that Muslim engineering undergraduates in the Malaysian higher learning institutions have rather good comprehension and consciousness of the element of certainty or al-yaqin. It also revealed that the students' perception on the theoretical context is better than their perception in the methodological context of al-yaqin.
This paper presents an analysis of mould growth causes that be found in an indoor library environment. The visual inspection had been conducted to identify visible mould in the indoor library environment. Three higher education institution libraries in Malaysia were selected as a case study. The identified mould species on the site were analysed using mould growth germination factors and possible causes that related to the growth. The result confirmed mould species such as Aspergillus, Penicillium, Stachybotrys's identified as a common mould growth found in the three library buildings. The analysis of mould growth causes is important for this study as is to confirm the relationship with the mould found in this building which may result in adverse health impact, environment, material and archive in the library. The result also can become guidelines and best practices for library management regarding good indoor environmental quality.
The act of stereotyping towards Malay race is still very much alive until these days, be it through word of mouth or even by using other mediums. And this is no secret as the act of labelling Malay people with various types of negative connotations being directed at that particular race which is done by other races in Malaysia or even by people from other country continuously occur until present days. One of the most common attributes that always have been associated to Malays is laziness. The stereotype exists because of several myths that have been going around for some time. This paper analyses some evidences of presence of materials that depicts the Malay as a race that is lazy as a whole. Articles which were extracted from Singapore Free Press, which is one of the earliest British newspapers in this region are discussed, showing how the British subjugated the negative traits towards Malay from their discourse. The most important part is that this paper will dispel such myth, which has been such popular ingredients in the stereotyping of the Malay.
