Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is a type of distributedBragg reflector constructed in a short segment of optical fiber that reflects particular wavelengths of light and transmits all others. This is achieved by creating a periodic variation in the refractive index of the fiber core, which generates a wavelength specific dielectric mirror. The FBG system, consist of excimer laser, mask aligner, optical spectrum analyzer and tunable laser source was utilized to fabricate the fiber gratings. FBG is developed to measure the tension, temperature, strain, ice monitoring, relative error of the load and sag of the overhead power transmission line and real long term online monitoring of temperature, strain, ice on the overhead transmission lines is very important to insure the power grid safe during the ice disaster. To solve the electromagnetic interference, a tension sensor based on Fiber Bragg Grating is developed to measure the tension of the power transmission line. Finally functions and applications of prospects of FBG sensors represented.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
