To assess the prevalence of patients requiring full mouth rehabilitation based on the turner and missirlian classification and assess the choice of the treatment plan. The study was done in the institutional hospital setting of Saveetha Dental College, Chennai. Patients requiring Full mouth rehabilitation were assessed, data was obtained from filtering the college database to obtain 65 patients. The patients were classified by the Turner and Missirlian classification based on their extent of rehabilitation required and the treatment protocol used for them was also assessed. The obtained data was tabulated using an Excel sheet and statistical analysis was performed using Pearson correlation. Prevalence of Category 1 Of turner and missirlian classification was among patients above 60 years (36.8%), For category 2 it's among patients between 50-60 years (33.3%), and category III (36.4%) showed similar results as class I in terms of prevalence. The treatment preferred was mostly tooth supported FMR, Category 1 (52.6%), Category II (47.2%), Category III (54.5%). Full mouth rehabilitation involves extensive rehabilitation of oral structures requiring a meticulous interdisciplinary approach. The study shows the increased requirement of full mouth rehabilitation among elderly patients. Research analysing the prevalence of patients in need for such rehabilitation could give us a ground report on the oral health status of a population, and could prove to be valuable literature which could become the forerunner for research in analysing the treatment protocols.
Tooth preparation is part of the daily routine for dentists. Each step involved in the tooth preparation is important. This study focuses on three parameters, finish lines, retraction methods and impression technique. retraction and impression technique go hand in hand, as retraction of the is mandatory to expose the prepared finish line and record them accurately. This study aimed to determine various types of finish lines, retraction methods and impression techniques incorporated during single crown preparation in Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals. Case records were collected from DIAS (Dental Information Archiving Software). This university setting study involved a sample size of 812 patients. Data was tabulated with parameters of name, age, sex, finish line, retraction, no. of cords, type of impression. The retraction method used was a mechanical retraction method which comprised 794 teeth and 554 of the retraction was done using "2 cords (000+1)". 2 stage putty wash technique was commonly employed during impression taking in tooth preparation of 746 teeth. Chi-square test done for association between tooth and finish lines, retraction methods, no. of cords used and impression technique did not show any statistical significance (p>0.05) while association of finish line with no. of cords and type of impression showed statistical significance (p<0.05). Within the limit of the study, the most widely used finish line was shoulder finish line and mechanical retraction methods were commonly employed with 2 stage putty wash technique being the most common impression technique.
Diabetes Mellitus is one of the most common metabolic disorders with 1.82 times greater risk in edentulous patients than dentate patients. It is associated with complications like neuropathy, nephropathy, retinopathy, cardiovascular problems and periodontitis. They complain of burning sensation of the mouth and multiple ulcerations in the mouth. All these problems contribute to the failure of retention of complete denture. The aim of the study is to find the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in complete denture patients. Case records of 89,000 patients who visited the hospital between June 2019- April 2020 were retrieved and reviewed. This university setting study involved 351 complete denture patients. Data was tabulated with parameters - name, age, gender, medical history of diabetes or with other systemic diseases. Data was imported to SPSS for statistical analysis. Descriptive statistics and chi-square tests were done. 26.5% of the complete denture patients had diabetes mellitus. Males were found to be slightly more prevalent than females. The most common age group affected was 60-75 years age group. Chi-square test showed no significance between age or gender with diagnosis of diabetes. ( p-value >0.05). Diabetes mellitus is associated directly with edentulism with 26.5% of prevalence with this disease. The most common age group prevalent was in the age group of 60-75 years and commonly seen in males.
