Most educational musical software is designed for occidental music and instruments. As Arabian music has special features, utilization of most available musical software is limited. This article presents educational tools developed for Arabian woodwinds. These tools are based on a recently proposed system devoted to melodic retrieval of Arabian woodwinds and benefiting from an open Musical Instrument Digital Interface Toolbox. Four applications are presented and evaluated: Automatic Music Transcription of Arabian woodwinds, Music Information Retrieval to serve Arabian polyphony, query-by-playing for musical libraries and a tool for melodic analysis.
Abstract. The purpose of this study was to obtain the opinion of German music students engaged in two musical fields, music education and musicology, concerning the introduction of Arabic music in German schools and eventually into German society. As music is widely considered a language that can be understood and perceived all around the world, even if each style of music has its own identity and reflects the culture of its nation, it can still be considered as a means of integrating the West and the East, as well as the North and the South. The results of this study show that Arabic music can be accepted and understood by German music students from both fields of study. These students see the advantages and benefits of introducing Arabic music to German schools.
Carl Czerny (1791-1857) was a composer and music educator who made nearly a thousand musical compositions. He was a piano performer, a teacher of the instrument and a theorist. His achievements in the field of education are considered a solid foundation to teach beginners and skilled performers. The study aims to shed some light on the educational point of view of Carl Czerny from a theoretical analytical perspective, in addition to highlighting the principles and methods developed by him that can provide and help both students and teachers to achieve their goals more effectively. The study brings out Czerny's ideas, theories and methodology of teaching music in general, and learning to play the piano in particular. The researchers studied the most important educational principles developed by Carl Czerny in which he saw a basis for the process of learning to play the Instrument, and they managed to elaborate the methodology he created.
