O presente estudo tem como objetivo avaliar o impacto das condições de saúde bucal na qualidade de vida e fatores associados em escolares de 12 anos de idade. Trata-se de um estudo do tipo transversal, com uma amostra probabilística de 102 crianças, no qual foi avaliada a QVRSB através do Child Perceptions Questionnaire (CPQ11-14) em versão curta (Impact Short Form:16 -ISF:16), avaliando-se, 04 domínios, como a limitação funcional (DLF), sintomas orais (DSO), bem-estar social (DEES) e bem-estar emocional (DBEE), sendo avaliadas também as características sociodemográficas, aspectos preventivos e clínicos em saúde bucal. O escore médio do CPQ11-14 para amostra foi de 25 e as variáveis demográficas e de prevenção em saúde bucal não se mostraram associadas de maneira estatisticamente significante ao o escore médio do CPQ11-14. Dentre as variáveis subjetivas, a dor de origem dentária mostrou-se associada ao escore médio do CPQ11-14, bem como, ao domínio DLF. A necessidade de tratamento odontológico autorreferido mostrou-se associado ao DSO e DLF do CPQ11-14. Entre as condições normativas, apenas a maloclusões mostraram-se associadas ao DBEE do CPQ11-14. As condições normativas pouco influenciaram no QVRSB, por outro lado, as condições subjetivas mostraram-se fortes preditores em relação ao impacto das condições de saúde bucal na qualidade de vida das crianças avaliadas.
Aim To identify Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus in oral biofilms of intubated and non‐intubated patients admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Methods This was a cross‐sectional study, with 30 biofilm sites sampled. S. aureus and P. aeruginosa were identified by conventional biochemical assays. Antimicrobial susceptibility was tested by disk‐diffusion. Results Of 30 sites, 50% contained P. aeruginosa and 3.33% S. aureus. P. aeruginosa was detected in similar amounts in all 3 sample sites, with 5 colonized sites (50%). S. aureus colonized a single supragingival site (3.33%). There was resistance to multiple antimicrobial agents of P. aeruginosa in 7 sites (100%) and S. aureus in 1 (100%). Conclusions This study revealed an important relationship between P. aeruginosa and S. aureus colonization at supragingival, subgingival and lingual sites and intubation, thus revealing antimicrobial resistant bacteria colonization of medical interest, which may contribute to the therapy choice directed to these microorganisms.
Down Syndrome or Trisomy of chromosome 21, as it is also known worldwide, is characterized by an error in chromosome distribution with the presence of an extra chromosome in the distal portion of it, generating specific physical and clinical characteristics throughout these people's lives. This paper aims to identify and discuss the main issues related to the role of oral health in the quality of life of people with Down syndrome. A search for papers was carried out in the following electronic databases: BIREME and PubMed, between the years 2010 to 2020. The search for electronic databases retrieved 22 articles. After reading the title and abstract, reading in full and applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 09 articles were selected. It is concluded that there are frequent oral alterations in people with Down syndrome and some of these can be observed and treated from the first months of the child's life. In this way, the present study contributes in a scientific way to the general knowledge of oral problems and frequent alterations in people with down syndrome and elucidates their means of prevention and dental treatments from early childhood as a way to improve the quality of life and well-being of these patients.
