Changing demography and ensuing incidents of backlash, growing intolerance, and prejudice led a group of educators from seven different schools in two rural counties of northwestern Washington State to organize a National Endowment for the Humanities sponsored series of Holocaust education inservice workshops. The obstacles they overcame in designing, implementing, and evaluating their learning are presented herein. Provided also is an extensive quantitative and qualitative analysis of the key issues/concepts and corresponding methods/sources the educators identified for successful integration of this content into their 6-12th grade social studies, literature, and world language classroom curricula.
