Mosques are commonly associated with Islamic religious rituals such as salah, dhikr and du'a. They are also perceived as the prime location for celebrating Islamic festivals, and they physically are considered general places of worship for Muslims. For this matter, it should be understood that the word ibadah (religious rituals) itself is not restricted to the meaning of worshipping God. It has a broader definition which touches every procedure in every aspect of life which is to be executed with Islamic manners. This research, accordingly, will uncloak the role that mosques, particularly in Malaysia, play in contributing to the community transformation especially within Malaysian Muslims community. Also, a model will be proposed by which optimal participation and contribution can be presented by its potent status. Library research methodology is mainly used in this research, with focuses on every related written material found, either printed or electronic. Acts, statistics, official reports and other similar are analysed thoroughly for data collection. The findings show that the mosque should not be narrowly defined as a place to perform only worship but should also be seen as an agent for the transformation of society towards a better life in society.
This paper attempts to identify the reasons why the (former) Prime Minister of Malaysia, (Tun) Mahathir Mohamed proposed to change the Malaysian Standard Time on the 8 hours ahead based on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and coordinated with official times for (East Malaysia), namely Sabah and Sarawak effective January 1, 1982. Previously, Peninsular Malaysia was 7 ½ hours ahead while Sabah and Sarawak were 8 hours ahead of GMT. Using analytical textual method, this paper formulated the content of the House of Commons Hansard texts on 21 December 1981 and the House of Lords convened on 18 December 1981. The findings revealed that the ½ hour time difference between the Peninsular and Sabah and Sarawak affected working hours especially in early and ending of time. The approval of the Malaysian Standard Time Act successfully standardized the official communication time between the Peninsular with Sabah and Sarawak as well as establishing integration between the two regions. The time zone of Sabah and Sarawak was chosen as the Standard Malaysia time as it was found to be most appropriate in terms of daylight savings as well as minimal disruption to the everyday life of the people in the country.
The involvement of youth in drug addiction has raised concerns about the future of the country since human capital is threatened by social problems caused by drug abuse. Adolescent addicts who undergo rehabilitation treatment need continuous support outside the institution to prevent relapse which causes the treatment period to be gainless. This paper aims to (i). identify the types of drugs used by teenagers who are involved in addiction and (ii). discuss the CRAFT approach as a drug rehabilitation strategy for teenagers. This paper uses a survey method where drug information is obtained through a questionnaire. The CRAFT model is discussed as a solution to the problem of adolescent addicts. A total of 81 adolescent addicts aged 13 to 21 years were involved from three drug rehabilitation centers on the East Coast. The data was then analyzed using descriptive analysis to obtain mean values for the types of drugs taken by adolescent addicts. The results found that adolescent addicts have taken various types of drugs since the beginning. The CRAFT model is an approach that is customed in two phases which involve families and communities in the postrehabilitation process in institutions. The idea of the CRAFT model is to empower families and communities to encourage active participation throughout the recovery process.
