Aims: To investigate the best fit model of student reading motivation. Study Design: Descriptive-causal. Place and Duration of Study: Department of Education (DepEd) Divisions of Cotabato, Koronadal, Kidapawan, Sultan Kudarat, and General Santos City during the school year 2022-2023. Methodology: Data were gathered through survey questionnaires. The 400 grade 10 respondents were chosen through stratified random sampling. A structural equation model wa used in accessing the sequence of inter-dependencies between independent and dependent variables. Results: The overall results showed a high level of student learning strategies, engagement, and reading motivation. It was also revealed that the variable of the attitude of students towards school showed a moderate level of reluctance and a low level of loneliness at school and belongingness of the participants. There is a significant relationship between the three variables: learning strategies, engagement, and attitude toward school in reading motivation. All variables have a significant correlation. Of the five models developed, model 5 had indices that were consistent and indicated the best fit to the data. Conclusion: The study proves the Achievement Goal Theory. Students’ motivation helps them develop a desire to learn and succeed. It goes that motivation is essential in reading. Likewise, high-level ability in learning strategy, engagement, attitude towards school, and reading motivation contribute to the motivation of students in reading.
This study aimed to study, collect, analyze, and record the oral narratives of the Manobo tribe in Barangay Magulibas, Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental. Also, this study aims to determine each value and educational implication found in the oral narratives collected. This study uses qualitative-narrative analysis composed of ten research participants, nine Manobo tribal elders, and one tribal literacy teacher. The researcher collected thirty oral narratives of Manobo, consisting of eight legends and twenty-two folktales, which were identified using Eugenio’s Classification of Oral Narratives. The researcher uses the Triangular Translator to explain the guide questionnaire, which is translated from the Manobo language to Visayan language. The values found from the collected oral narratives were based on Classification of Values by Andres. Findings reveal that the values and educational implications found in the oral narratives of Manobo mirror the culture, tradition, and way of living of the tribe. These collected oral narratives of the Manobo will be used to learn and guide future researchers. KEYWORDS: oral narratives, Manobo, private school, values, Philippines
Aims: To investigate the causal relationship between and among effective teaching, self-regulation, and study habits. Study Design: Causal Relationship Analysis. Place and Duration of Study: The study was conducted at CARAGA Region, Philippines during the school year 2022-2023. Methodology: A four-dimentional and validated survey questionnaire was used in gathering the data. Four hundred seventeen grade 12 Senior High School students were randomly chosen to be the respondents of the study. Results: Both perceptions of effective instruction and student study habits scored extremely well. Additionally, there were high levels of self-control, study habits, and Filipino proficiency. Furthermore, it was discovered that learning Filipino was significantly correlated with good teaching, self-control, and study habits. Model 5 produced the model that fit the data the best. Conclusion: The very high levels of perceived effectiveness in teaching and studying suggest that teachers fully model efficient learning and self-control in helping students learn Filipino. Similar to how strong study habits and serious Filipino learning indicate pupils who follow good study habits. Furthermore, the relationship between efficient instruction, self-control, and study habits demonstrates that these factors should be taken into account by teachers when instructing Filipino. The findings of this research demonstrate that learning Filipino is comparable to learning any other language.
