This research study included a questionnaire distributed to 750 adolescents between the ages of 12 -24. Qualitative interviews with 60 adolescents in the sample and a questionnaire with a control group of 1,033 adolescents showed higher health strains among disadvantaged adolescents. In addition, those adolescents with a below-average sense of coherence had significantly more psychosomatic stress symptoms and experienced a greater degree of demoralization.
