Some researcher’s claim some of fish have been studied in Kao Bay were at dangerous level because mercury and cyanide contains. Nevertheless, up to now people around Kao Bay were consumed a marine product as a livelihood sources and food sources. The purpose of this research were to determine of Pb,Cd, Cu and Zn on anchovy (Stolephorus sp) and white shrimp (Penaeus marguiensis) around Kao Bay. The result expected could contributingthe feasible of anchovy and white shrimp were consumed. The method were used to determine the content of Pb, Cd, Cu and Zn on anchovy and white shrimp by using AAS method with HNO3 reagent. Those research assess thecontent of heavy metals in laboratory of Mathematics and Science Faculty of Brawijaya University. The results obtained the metal content in anchovy were Zn> Cd> Pb> Cu and the metal content in white shrimp were Zn> Cu> Pb> Cd. The results showed the content of Pb, Cd, Cu and Zn on anchovies had exceeded the maximum limit were set and the content of Pb, Cd, and Cu on white shrimps has exceeded except the Zn in was below the maximum limit but is already at a critical level.
The health condition of mangrove forests can be determined by assessing forest health indicators. One of the indicators used in determining the health of mangrove forests is faunal biodiversity. Measurement of forest health is a step that can be taken to ensure forest functions and benefits. The study's objectives were to determine the composition of mangrove species and mangrove forest fauna (birds and epifauna), to determine the structure of the fauna community which includes species diversity and species dominance and to determine the health condition of mangrove forests on Moti Island, Ternate Island District. This research was conducted on Moti Island, Moti District, Ternate City, North Maluku Province for six months, April - September 2021. A Sampling of mangroves was carried out using the "spot check" method. Meanwhile, the method used to assess mangroves' health condition refers to the FHM (Forest Health Monitoring) method. There are nine species of mangrove, namely Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora stylosa, Rhizophora mucronata, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Sonneratia alba, Xylocarpus granatum, Avicennia offincinalis, A. marina and Nypa fruticans. While the composition of fauna species is as many as 18 species consisting of Epifauna (Gastropoda = 12 species, Bivalve = 2 species) and birds as many as four species. The diversity of mangrove forest fauna species in all research locations is moderate and no species dominate. The health status of mangrove forests, both Tafaga and Figur villages, has 60% good condition, 20% moderate and poor conditions.
The process of extracting gold using mercury (Hg) carried out by Nusa Halmahera Minerals industries (PT. NHM) as well as by the community of illegal gold mining or gold mining without a permit (PETI) that occurs in the mining area of Halmahera Island can have a negative impact on the aquatic environment. This study aims to determine the mercury absorption in mangrove roots of Rhizopora sp and Telescopium telescopium at two different stations. Sampling of mangrove roots was repeated 3 times for each station. Differences in the accumulation of heavy metals Hg in the roots of Rhizophora sp were analyzed using the T-test. The study showed that the concentration of mercury in the roots of Rhizophora sp ranged from 0.016 – 0.026 mg/kg and there were differences in root absorption between Rhizopora sp at station 1 of the Tabobo River mangrove near the PETI disposal and station 2 at the mining industry waste disposal. The concentration of mercury in Telescopium telescopium ranged from 0.08 - 0.15 mg/kg. It is indicates that Telescopium telescopium in Kao Teluk has been contaminated with mercury but is still below the threshold of the quality standard that has been set.
Heavy metals have a relationship with fish organs. The aim of this study was to determine the distribution of heavy metals in various organs of Gerres abbreviatus and Parastromateus niger. The research was conducted in Kao Bay waters from April to September 2019. Samples obtained were prepared at the aquatic science laboratory of Khairun University and were analyzed at the Environmental Productivity Laboratory of IPB University Bogor using the AAS instrument to determine heavy metals concentrations. The result of the heavy metals accumulation in Gerres abbreviatus meat was Zn > Cu > Pb > Ni > Hg > Mn > Cd. Meanwhile, the heavy metals accumulation in Roi fish (Parastromateus niger) meat was Zn > Mn > Ni > Hg > Pb > Cd > Cu.
