Background: Most people still remain unaware of the detrimental effects of electronic cigarettes (ecigarettes). Hence the present study was conducted to assess the awareness about the use and harmful effects of e-cigarettes among young adults in Pune. Materials and Methods: A questionnaire study was conducted among the smokers in Pune city regarding the use of e-cigarettes. The structured, self-administered close-ended questionnaire was designed to collect the data which consisted of three parts and comprised of 30 questions. The reliability and validity of the instrument were calculated. Informed consent was also taken from participants. Statistical analysis was done using descriptive analysis. Results: In this study there were total of 150 participants between 18 to 75 years of age. Out of 150 participants, 132 participants were male and 17 were female. About 55.4% participants used e-cigarettes while 44.6% participants did not use e-cigarettes.
Conclusion:From the data collected, the attitude of the population towards use of e-cigarette was assessed; hence more comprehensive awareness program should be needed in population.
Introduction: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is an advanced imaging modality which has abundant clinical applications in the field of dentistry. As diagnostic imaging equipment, it is changing ways for dental practitioners in terms of diagnosis and hence, planning a more accurate treatment plan. Materials and methods: A study was conducted among the dental graduates of Pune City. The structured, self-administered, close-ended questionnaire was designed to collect the data which consisted of two sections and comprised of 20 questions for assessing the knowledge, attitude and awareness among these students towards CBCT and to determine if an awareness lecture on the same could improve their knowledge and attitude on this topic. The reliability statistics were calculated and the Cronbach alpha was 0.751. Statistical analysis was done using descriptive statistics. Results: In this study, there were a total of 75 participants between 23-27 years of age. Before conducting the seminar, around 49.2% of the participants were well acquainted with the basics of CBCT and after the seminar, 79.9% of the participants became aware of the same. About 90% of the interns felt that conducting seminars and workshops can be helpful in enhancing their knowledge on CBCT.
Conclusion:The participants had a positive attitude towards CBCT but lacked basic knowledge on, thus necessitating the need for more conducting CBCT workshops and awareness lectures.
Introduction: Eating disorders are a range of various psychological conditions that cause unhealthy eating habits to develop. Eating disorders include Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, binge eating, muscle dysmorphia, drunkorexia, pregorexia, pica and restrictive food intake disorder. It's not entirely considered a health hazard as it cannot be detected at an earlier stage until physical complications arise. The aim of the study was to assess the knowledge pertaining to eating disorders and its oral and general health effects among the general population of Western India. Materials and Methods: A questionnaire study was conducted in general population of Western India. The participants were selected based on the age group ranging from 15 to 35 years and above. The questionnaire consisted of 40 questions along with demographic details like age, gender, BMI of the participants. Results: Out of 374 participants present in the study only 43.9% of the participants knew about various eating disorders. Approximately 35.6% of the participants were aware of oral effects and 36.4% participants knew about systemic symptoms of eating disorders.
Conclusion:The level of knowledge regarding eating disorders was satisfactory however very few considered it as a serious issue.
